People who claim that Costco don't have layoffs are wrong. In Calgary, Costco have recently fired hundreds of staff. They are also paying minimum wage (less than $15 CAD) not much more than Walmart. I worked for them as a forklift driver for just over a year untill I finished school. BTW Costco forklift drivers are the lowest paid in the industry reciving only .50 cents more! That's the facts people. As for medical benifits they are almost nonexistent.

I've worked at Costco here in Alberta for over 10 years and this is the first time I've seen the company laying people off post Christmas rush when trade historically dips for a few weeks. It's certainly somthing Jim Sinegal would not have allowed.
As for pay, I agree new hires get a raw deal but if you can afford to stick with it the rewards will come. Ask anyone who has worked for Costco for more than a year and they will tell you Costco is still one of the best companies to work for anywhere.
I'm talking about Canada not California and $15 is minimum wage. Fact is the differences between US Costco and the Canadian operation are huge both in wages and health benefits. As for layoffs they are becoming very common here.
Not sure about the US but here in Canada most Costco employees are also part time however they are asked to work full time hours at least two out of every three months. That said, they receive no overtime for exceeding their PT hours.
$15/hour isn't minimum wage. Go back to your socialist California!
