Thread regarding Helmerich & Payne Inc. layoffs

My Two Cents of Thoughts

After seeing some of the comments here I must say that most of the things that's been said are true. First of all, this company is not that bad of a place to work and there are a lot of good hardworking people in here. However, it's obvious that they practice nepotism in this workplace although I see nothing wrong with it. But in doing so, they tend to hire people who are not " so called" qualified for a position and they base their hiring judgement just because somebody is related to someone in the company- and that's pretty crappy in my opinion. And I think this is where the "clique" starts. Take for instance one of the high up managers on one of the depts here has this "assistant" and this person does nothing but read newspaper or magazineorvmaybe order some food when there is a meeting but that is it. In fact this said assistant "resigned" Ifrom the job to spend summer with their child but the position was NEVER posted for an opening because the boss "saved" it for when this person came back and work for the company again after resigning. So basically, this assistant resigned for the summer and then came back when the school started back up. That is BS to me. How can someone allowed to do that?! And why would HR even approved it? This is where the grey area in this company's ethics. If they do like you, I guess you're safe otherwise you're S.O.L. Is sad to see a good company that is being run by people who exploit their privileges. I hope the administration will re-structure things that need to be fixed. Just my two cents of thoughts.

So many great employees have been let go only because they didn't fit into the "CLIQUES" at that Tulsa office! HR plays a very big role in the underhand practices going on at the office. I hope I live to see the day David Millwee gets what he deserves for all the scheming and screwing his coworkers to get where he is today! Hans Helmerich should hang his head in shame for allowing John Lindsay to take his fathers once highly respected company and literally sink it to these levels. Shameful!

I work at the West Fabrication shop and it is as you said above nepotism to the fullest, if you don't fall in to any of the clicks they will try to run you off and out the door. We had our layoffs today and was 50% of the total shop that got let go but as fortunate as I was to not be let go there were a lot of great employees with great work ethic and skill sets to do the job better than a lot of the employees that was left because of some of the clicks. Was depressing to see some of our employees go that have been there since we first opened out door. But again the company has its pro's and con's the pro's being a lot of great benefits but the cons are the lack of communication throughout the company and as well very very poor management!

I'm hearing the next series of layoffs will be the IT group.

Aha! I had heard rumors about that assistant's "summer off." Shameful. More of the shady ethical practices were also at play in the recent layoff. Some originally slated to be let go, were saved by having someone higher up do some swapping.
