Thread regarding DIRECTV Group Inc. layoffs

California Broadcast Center in Long Beach, CA

Layoffs are decimating the California Broadcast Center in Long Beach, CA. Our inept, ignorant, headhunter manager has brought in 20 years old inexperienced kids that we more experienced broadcast engineers have been forced to train. It's taking 3 of them to do the work that 1 of us does. We are all a part of the origination of DTV. We started the company.

For many of us it's been close to 25 years. Well, I was just laid off after over 22 years. As we're possibly a dozen others. Everyone is over 45, many over 50. I was just informed by a buddy of mine that's still there that he was told to train so done and prepare to be let go. Every Direct TV operator and engineer is being let go.

We've not even had the opportunity to renegotiate our contracts. We've just been told to get out. This is exactly what the opposition to the "merger" said would happen in court. The government bought AT&T's bullshit about creating more jobs and and not firing anyone.

The government needs to hold AT&T accountable for lying to the government and the regulators. AT&T is a disgusting company run by a bunch of incompetent, lying, arrogant, backstabbing, pieces of sh--......... Thank God that karma's a b--ch!

*UPDATE*

Nearly every original Directv engineer and broadcast operator has been laid off (read as fired) at the California Broadcast Center in Long Beach, CA... Oh, it's not that AT&T didn't need us, it's that they've now replaced us with young ( 1/2 our ages), underpaid, friends and family members of the management scum. Yes, the 'temp' punks that we were forced to train, took our jobs at 1/3 our rate and benefits. They're now staff. They're not interested in a career - just a paycheck, and don't mind being taken advantage of. Everyone laid off is older. EVERYONE.

AT&T were taken over by South Western Bell but after the merger the AT&T moniker was kept. I use to work for a cable TV company in UK that was taken over by South Western Bell. After taking over they treated the employees like sh--! Even I was "setup" then fired which is illegal in UK (no 'hire and fire' there. To get rid of someone a certain procedure has to be followed and it's in everybody's work contract.) I sued the company and won. As a result, the company ended up with a 100% unionized work force which they didn't want. Eventually they, sold off the cable TV company to someone else. Now, I just received a letter describing the pension that I will be getting from AT&T as a result of working for DTV. Karma really does exist!

Att will thin out the so-called fat bring in new cheaper labor and get rid of the more expensive experienced labor., once that happens, the Latin America division will be sold off as a profitable entity.

And ATT will provide all satellite service "communication" to them.

So they recover 2/3 of their investment and still keep all satellite services. Step two, now the split and package the US division as 2 separate sections broadcasting & communications. And guess what happens next.

They will sell off the broadcasting division to Time warner or Dish or whom ever. ( all other employees are gone) and they keep the communications division.

Effectively gutting all of DIRECTV and its employees.

Let me drop the mic, and walk off stage. Bam!!!

My neighbor told me about this — So, in support, I cancelled my DTV. I will never subscribe to any AT&T services or products, ever! I've talked about this with my family and friends, all of them will be cancelling all of their AT&T services! Hard working people need to support each other. I'm curious, where's the union? Why didn't AT&T's CWA union reps offer protection to DTV employees after the merger? This is disgusting! Hard working Americans deserve better!
