Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

At HP R&D Brazil, they announced that they are going to cut 55 employees (from a total of 300 or so) by the end of October FY16.

That is, by the end of this year.

(This is Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre -- not São Paulo.)

I won't be surprise if they close the entire R&D in Brazil. It s---s anyway.

Thinking they can be in this layoff list, employees are unable to focus on working -- which is expected IMO.

That's actually funny because after the announcement, the speaker mentioned something like:

  • Now we need you to be focused, more than ever...

Oh, c'mon... Who could focus under these conditions? It would be better if they layoff right away I guess. I don't know... Whatever.

It happened. Fifty five employees were fired. But we still have like 100 managers.

Brazil R&D exists for around 15 years, and before that it was a product development center (computers and banking equipment/software), for 25 years. So it's there for 40+ years. That is older than the Compaq/Digital merge.

Is this for real? I didn't even know there was an HP R&D facility in Brazil.
