Sources suggest there are discussions underway to "trim" the TCS workforce and may result in reduction of mostly senior workforce from the company. The simple way to execute is to take out seniors from the projects , (hence improving the junior ratio and cost), put them on the bench and try to map to open resource requirements across TCS. This exercise is a no more than eye wash since all unit heads have been advised against taking seniors in their portfolios effectively leaving them vulnerable to the 'exit' hawks. It may be a repeat of Dec 2014 but in a more subtle ,slow, planned and conspicuous fashion. #StopUseAndThrow

Thins can be better but they are not all that bad here - Wipro is worse, I worked there 7 years, they pay very little
Don't get negative guys, message is simple upgrade ....
TCS is also resorting to other DISCRIMINATORY tactics for e.g make it a policy not to hit ex- TCS'ers and this is all being carried out in a hush hush way under a close watch of HR. Many groups who would live to hire oldies are at a loss .
Trying to dump Seniors is equally discriminatory and all such tactics will soon boomerang into a nasty battle ...just like e.g. has happened to FLIPKART in recent times ..
TCS needs a more strong leadership. Come out to be real "TATA CONSULTANCY SERVICES" rather than being same old "tamil CONSULTANCY SERVICES".
Nope this is not a fake news!!
Literally somebody save TCS. Current highly paid not of any use management and CEO is taking the the ship down also defaming Tata.
It's really a sinking titanic. N Chandra literally has no idea how to lead. He's just concerned about profit without any responsibility towards employees who is the main reason of the profit.
Q2 Results: While shareholders have been rewarded with 6 times the face value per share, the employees ( only for mid seniors and above) variable pay has been cut by half or more.
Also, mgmnt seems to have run out of ideas and only struggling to execute the same age old levers to improve bottom line- On off ratio,Sr- Jr ratio which clearly is impacting top line as evident in this quarter results
No thought leadership in how to leverage the vast experience of the seniors eg: in the consulting space, design & disruptive thinking.
Mid level seniors are soft targets for the management team who need to protect their own seats and the sycophants around them.
Support Groups- HR,RMG etc are ineffective and very administrative/clerical in nature. Initiatives are driven mechanically with the same approach
With the current leadership(if anyone can call them leaders), its all downhill. None of them can stand shoulder to shoulder with someone like Sikka from Infy
Having worked with TCS for a year I can totally understand the reason why.. TCS is just downright pathetic company with crappy management.. 98% people in my project were inept at their work and the solution they gave to client was a disgrace..
Highly unprofessional company there is a reason why people call TCS a 'sarkari' company.. Good for people who are not sound in their work and don't have any high career ambitions..
Senior reduction means, here an explanation is needed as who are seniors in TCS. TCS is categorized into three level of experienced people, Seniors, middle level and the juniors. Here the layer called 'seniors' is given the responsibility to reduce seniors in their units, naturally they remove the middle level people and show that they have achieved their target. The layer of 'seniors' includes themselves and their close friends, naturally they make sure that they are safe.
TCS management can't think of creative ways of growth. It's an old fashioned outsourcing mindset management at top layers. They have run out of ideas to deliverer industry leading performance. Unit Heads know only to squeeze operations and deliver their targets.
But now no more squeezing of people is possible. Plus this customer facing guys are not talented enough to lead the engaging discussions with clients in today's digital age. That's why they are not able to win new business against Accenture and specilaized digital players.
Hence all Unit Heads and CEO, CFO, Head of HR are now finding ways to cut corners. Easiest is to LAYOFF senior people in projects and business development who have done so much for TCS over the years.
LAYOFF is not an issue. It's a global norm. But in Western IT cos and even in Indian IT Cos like Infosys, Cognizant etc senior people in customer facing roles are paid huge incentives, bonus, stock options etc. So they have been well rewarded over the years.
But in TCS, these senior people have not got any monetary reward - no stock options, no huge bonuses, nothing. All of TCS income goes to Tata Sons to pay for loss making Tata cos. And in TCS only CEO, CFO, and Unit Heads are well paid. No one else. HUL has more Rs 1.0 + cr employees than TCS, with just 5% of TCS staff. That is shameful for TCS.
As such, when you LAYOFF senior employees, it's an EVIL act to the highest order.
In Q2 '17 results, TCS mgmt showed a QoQ EBIT growth of Rs 300 cr. Actual EBIT growth is negative. It is QoQ (- Rs 400 cr). TCS mgmt has cut Quarterly Variable Allowance of middle and senior employees in the range of 50-100%. That's how they have saved Rs 700-800 cr. So actual QoQ EBIT decline of Rs. 400 cr. has been artificially bloated to a growth of Rs 300 cr
That's how TCS mgmt is cheating its employees. Now they are planning to LAYOFF senior employees, who have never been rewarded over last 12-15 years of their jobs with TCS. If TCS mgmt had been fairly and honestly rewarding its employees monetarily, then LAYOFF would have been justified.
TCS CEO's salary has jumped 10 times over last 7 years, whereas at junior levels salary growth over the same period has been only 1.5x, at middle level 1.8x, and senior level 2.2 x
In al, TCS is a sinking Titanic under present management.
Seniors are already being put into RMG
