This week Unum eliminated 36 finance jobs to an Indian-based company called EXL. Employees have 3-6 months to find a new job or collect severance on their end dates. Unum employees are to take part in trainings deemed "knowledge transfers" to the Indian workers. There are rumors that IT is next.

I would have trouble training my replacement. It's demeaning.
As anyone who has called "Bob" in India/the Philippines/Panama knows, there is a language barrier, script reading with no comprehension, and poor education.
But that person gets my job? You get what you pay for.
Lookout Unum IT! The hammer has begun the downswing.
Why always IT? Seriously!
I am so glad to see more fellow employees and people speaking out on Unum's deliberate deception of their employees, investors, local communities and country. Betrayal of their fellow Americans not withstanding, I certainly do not want anyone outside of this country viewing my personal or medical records. Unum is a publicly owned company and you can find their board members and officers listed online. Please contact them all and together we can indeed stop this juggernaut, sending a crystal clear message to other large American corporations that We The People will not stand for their disloyalty.
It escapes me how a company like this does not realize when it has shot it's own foot. Your current leadership must consist of dolts, fools and dullards with zero creativity if they are resorting to outsourcing.
I can confirm this. The cash processing dept and IT are next on the list and who knows how long that list is. i had lunch with a friend of mine who is one of the 36 getting laid off. I was not really all that surprised when they said that they are not only losing their job, but had to train their replacement. After everything I have seen and heard over the last year, nothing surprises me anymore.
I can confirm this
Unum is greedy
