Thread regarding VISA Inc. layoffs

How it all went down: The Layoff Meeting

My meeting was with two VPs from my group. No HR. They just read from the script.

I had to turn in my laptop and badge immediately following the meeting.

They said I can make arrangements to come in after hours to pick up any belongings, but I was to leave and not talk to anyone.

So, while the package was fine, I was a bit sad I couldn't say goodbye to all the folks I had worked with these many years.

@ 1jwq: HR/upper management has ALWAYS downgraded the ratings managers submit.

You can bet these political backstabbers are doing the layoffs according to the "last in - first out" principle and going to protect their cronies from ex-McKinsey etc. Scharf this egoistic a-hole timed his departure exactly to the coming layoffs so he doesn't have to encounter all the drama.

This was Pre-planned. I have been working for VISA last 4 years. Last 6 months my manager not providing any work. Finally he gave low rating. Not provideany work.

Few senior directors taking personal revenge. They are nice to specific people. Specially i am observing Indian Managers. VISA not professional company.. All dirty politics

HR is being impacted as well. I heard that this year, AR was conducted by members of their LT, not the direct manager. They disregarded any ratings managers submitted, and created their own. People who had no idea what staff does day-to-day. This gave them the opportunity to give low ratings and cut down on costs/justify layoffs. It's dirty, but it's corporate life.

I got laid off last Tuesday (one of a two day process) as part of the big re-org as did over 30% of my team. Overall I hear the rumors that 800-1500 people across the globe were affected. Decent package but the choices of who got laid off were made by senior executives who didn't understand who was really doing the work!!! No logical rational as to the method of cuts.

There were hundreds of layoffs, and more coming....they had so many there weren't enough HR people to do them - in fact several HR people are being let go too. Not handled well at all, and in most cases the business rationale wasn't solid.
