Thread regarding Luxottica Group S.p.A. layoffs

On Luxottica Layoffs

Luxottica is super hierarchical organization, quite a bit rigid in that sense… Right now, at least here where I am there is no sense of loyalty at all.

You often see people with long tenures, with 10 years or more, being laid off and that’s not cool. Job cuts at Luxottica are so unpredictable and you cannot plan for it – it just happens and you see someone next to you being walked out – that’s depressing and demoralizing.

The company itself is well recognized and should be a leading fashion brand, but they act like they are in middle ages sometimes.

The business knows that the USA is their golden egg, they extract most of their profits here in the USA. The talent is average at best, you will not be working with cutting edge people with multiple talents, people check in and check out and go back home to their families. They do not live the brand like people did at some other place where I worked.

So Lux wanted to close in store labs and spouted off some BS numbers about only 2-5 percent of customers want one hour service. They closed several regions labs and were quickly proven wrong. Their answer to this..... Basically faking they have labs. Installed an edger and offer only one SV lens option for their 1 hr service not even staffing the (labs) and having retail staff making the order. The rest of the labs have been assured they are safe despite every Corp document sent out confirming they still want to stop in house manufacturing but not saying it directly. They just don't know how to without losing their butts to the competition.

Our region closed all labs 5 months ago, 3 state region. We got 3 weeks notice. Severance packages for full time lab techs, retail was not offered, unless you were a licensed optician. We've heard some places are now getting less notice.

I currently work in a lab at LC and I've been hearing a bit about labs closing down but no more info other than that. I would love to here from anyone who has gone throat his lab closing to find out more. We're you offered a severance package? We're you told you could work retail instead or go off on your merry little way? What offer was put on the table? How much notice did you get? I want to know more.

Massive layoff happening with in luxottica now. Many stores closing their entire lab and laying off the entire lab staff. It's unexpected with only a week and half notice of final day of work :(
