It's all about money, the only reason that they did this was to cut cost. They fired some really awesome people who do great work. Why? Because they make too much money. That's their whole intention. And the stores still get screwed in the end by not getting enough payroll. This whole company is a joke. I've worked here for many years and unless you do a lot of brown nosing and if you don't have a pe--sthen you don't get very far in this company

Man or woman the company does not care about you ! They've seen they're best day ! All downhill from this point !!
Just because a woman is promoted in the company, does not make that company equal. There are a lot more men in power in that company than women. There is a lot of s-xist comments and attitudes seen and heard on a daily basis there as well.
I worked there for 10 years and it is TOTALLY ABOUT GENDER!!!! It is a boys club and if you are not part of it, you don't go anywhere. There are some women in some management positions but I believe that is done because they "have to" not because they want to. There are very s-xist men running multiple departments and executives know it and do nothing about it. They don't care about you.
Look, gender is an issue no matter where you go. That doesn't make what this company did any better or worse. The issue isn't who they laid off. It's how poorly they planned organizations and budgets to have to do so. One less mug or waterbottle given out to employees saves a career. This is why they need to wake up. Women will continue to have to fight uphill battles no matter where we go. Which is why rather than fighting eachother we need to band together and call out companies like this in our meetings when this option arises! I'm disgusted at how little attention this whole issue has gotten in the media. Other companies that do this in Pittsburgh get blown apart in articles....yet d---s seems to get away with the poor decisions it's made. And as a result we fight one another. That's just what corporate America wants. Cannibalism.
Surely insulting others makes you a very effective manager. It sad that you represent us with such a poor attitude within the company.
To all of you that say there is no discrimination in this company, please put glasses on. And for those of you who are female managers, I am one as well. I am a very strong headed one at that and I can see it very clearly. You are BLIND not to see that your gender matters. I've worked for this company long enough to see that. And long enough to see that nothing changes. The people that were fired? Some of them are irreplaceable. And the woman that was promoted to president of the company is the idiot that came up with the new way for SFS. You guys just keep s---ing d---s because clearly the ones who have commented on this defending d---s are the ones that are c--- s---ers
I have worked for the company for many years, and completely disagree with these comments. As a female who works hard and takes a lot of pride in my job it bothers me when others place blame on some sort of discrimination. I have seen many levels of the company from PT Hourly to Store Manager and in every position I held (in numerous stores) I can say that I was treated fairly and equally. My hard work and determination was never overlooked and I have always fealt valued by all members of upper management I have dealt with. I might also add that I know numerous female Managers across my region that feel the exact same way. If for some reason you feel as though you are being treated differently it may simply be that you are not the right fit for this company. The cuts are most certainly sad to see but I feel confident that we are making the right moves to set us up for success.
I have worked here for some time and this company never changes. It is a steady paycheck for now, but they do not care about their workers at all! Everyone is just a number to them.
As a female who has worked here for a very long time, I totally disagree with these statements. If you experienced discrimination based on gender at your location it should have been reported to HR! Discrimination is not tolerated.
A female was promoted to President of the company proving that gender was never a factor.
As a former low level retail employee, it IS about gender. They treat women like dirt.
I don't think it has anything to do with gender. But I'm surprised they don't cut the fat in all their budgets before cutting the people. This company drops funds on the most useless things, money down the drain without a thought. Yet thinks the only way to solve the issue is by cutting high performers. If I were you I'd be running for the hills. They did this to look good for share holders quickly with the quarter release, not because it was the only thing they could do.
As a person that has worked there for a long time myself (most likely longer than you), I can say you are wrong with just about everything you said.
