Someone below stated that layoffs don't usually require being escorted off the property. Depends on the company and the capacity of which you work. Ask any one from layoffs of 1999 and 2007-2009. Unisys gave you a box and 20 minutes to leave the premises or you were "escorted off". This was during the Burroughs and Sperry merger.

20 minutes!? I've 0 minutes where the manager comes down (WITHOUT warning), tells you to pack your stuff up and then escorts (walks with) you out of the building!
I worked for Sperry/Unisys for 28 years until I took the severance package in 2008. I was one of about 200 from hardware engineering to to be RIF'd in that wave. We weren't happy about losing our jobs, but we were treated with respect. We were told of the impending reduction months in advance and were given the opportunity to "volunteer". If we were accepted for the package we were told when our exit would take place. Most of us got 3 to 5 months advance notice. Plenty of time to network and start looking. And then when we left we got cash for our vacation balance and our pay continued for a period based on our service. One week pay per year of service up to a max of 26 weeks.
So, Unisys may have booted some out, but others fared much better.
seen many changes in my 43 years with unisys (sperry). certainly not all bad to work this long for them. with that said a very poorly run company, hated my position from 2012 -2015 and wanted out. fortunately it worked out for the best when i was packaged out in 2015. leaving was a blessing to my sanity, health and self worth.
Yes indeed! The Corp. just had to merge with Sperry even if ALL the annalists said it was VERY BAD for business! Unisys wanted Sperry's CASH! The CEO took the money and fled the county.
I had 29 years 7 months and 14 days with them as a service tech and was terminated!!! No retirement. That was 2003. No health care. That hit real hard and I never recovered.
