I am in Ohio and we have just had our first round of pharmacist and pharmacy tech layoffs. They take you to a back office tell you your job has been eliminated and give you two months serverance. Anyone else have this happen? We have heard more rounds are coming. Warning: get your drugs somewhere else. Only the newest and least experienced people will be left. A prescription for errors is coming.

I am the same as the anonymous above. I am 62 years old. When I fought back they destroyed me. My life is my education. We worked very hard. We were important. We helped people with medicine provided knowledge and in my case cared for the spirit and soul if I could. Vengeance is mine sayers the lord. Class action ok too let me know.
Let’s go on strike.
Has anyone heard if the September round of layoffs will include more pharmacists?
Not surprised at all.. but we only have ourselves to blame. No organization no unity amongst ourselves. We've been relagated to being just another employee. Unionize? Too late for that. Point the finger at Walmart all you want..... but the writings been on the wall over 20years when they put the mom and pops out of business. Shame on Walmart? No shame on us for letting it get to this point.
When doess this happen in wv

God closes doors only to open a better one if only we will have the faith to walk through it. I cried for a week over all of this and then realized that it is a blessing in the end. Have faith.

Yes, I was "displaced" after 12 years of service for Walmart and another pharmacist with 20 years with Walmart was also displaced. Other pharmacists with a few years were kept. Our displacement had nothing to do with our performances or our store numbers. We continued to grow and were the highest volume pharmacy in our market. I would like to hear if the other pharmacists that were displaced had many tears of employment or are older (I'm 62)
I was on PTO and received a call saying my job was eliminate after 19 1/2 years. I was also told it was done by a computer. My pharmacy manager and market manager fought to get answers and were told they had no say. I was told to report Monday and they would tell me my options. So much for Wal-Mart thinking of their employees as family.
I saw someone mention cutting the fat at the top. How many saw the salaries in the Notice of 2019 Annual Shareholders' Meeting? President and CEO total compensation with salary, stock awards, etc was 23,618,233.00. Executive VP and CFO was 9,420,414.00. 3 VPs with 13,486,493.00, 12,922,324.00, and 9,286,777.00. I would say there is a little fat that could be trimmed. I don't know that the company's success will continue for very long with all this negative publicity.
Yeah, my manager left a while back. His job replacement will be making what I did when starting. It’s outrageous what Walmart is doing. Pharmacy is so highly profitable, but a good million profit per store isn’t enough. Pharmacists are doing everything they’re required to do for a pr-scrip-ion and more in about two and a half minutes.
Read Walmart policy PD50 and PD50-ex. Make sure they are not pulling a fast one. You may be due more than two months severance. But they may have eliminated the policy as it benefits and protects employees. Walmart pharmacists are treated as a commodity.

This will not stop unless pharmacists contact and join a union no matter whether your staff or pic pharmacist. Stop b--ching and do something about it before it’s too late!
Phoenix, AZ - tech - axed yesterday. THE "computer" picked my name? WTH??? How human is this? What are we now, just digits in a computer???
Good luck to all of you!
It happened to my brother in law who was there 21 years. It has to do with your pay rate and salary and also how much PTO you have. The less time you are there the less PTO they have to give you per year. We had a DM get in trouble for saying she can hire younger pharmacists for less money. The pattern is if you are older and have more pto you are going to get canned. They hire older people than you so in rare cases so you cant suit for age discrimination but it is usually new graduates who have less PTO and lower salary so they can save money at both ends.
Forgot to mention 5+ years and great relationship with MHWD. And I am 70+ but still quite functional 🤓
Just happened to me today. And I was a float with no guaranteed hours So no cost unless used. Restructuring due to decreased rx volume was explanation.
I was a Pharmacy cashier with 5.5 years experience in the pharmacy. There were two new hires (but had been the company for 15+ years with less than 6 months pharmacy experience). I was called into the store manager's office where the District Manager was also present. I was told that "my name" had been pulled by the computer to be part of the Pharmacy lay offs. WTH, you are telling me a computer axed me? But, the store manager offered me another position, so it turned out okay. However, I just didn't (and still don't) seem this was a fair of doing it.
In Indiana they have already displaced three pharmacist that I know of and we haven’t received a severance package yet!
In Ohio, we just had series of Pharmacist layoffs at least six in our market. They can’t say why one particular person is chosen over another and only that it is not performance based. The idea is to turn around and hire newer, less experienced (and lower paid) pharmacists at a lower base hours salary so that during times of slow business, they aren’t obligated to pay a 40 hour work week salary. They likewise at hoping that these lower base salary employees will jump at the opportunities to work extra shifts during times of need. It’s a load c-ap. They want performance and dedication, but aren’t willing to give professionals the job security they deserve. No matter how many metrics you meet and no matter how much extra personal time you put in, Walmart doesn’t care about patient safety or their valued health care professionals.
We had 2 techs to quit back to back and wasnt allowed to open a req to replace them because the lack of hours. I mean for real, they were both full time techs! We wasnt allowed to use those hours for our other techs either. Rumor is with school starting back we will not see an increase in hours so this flu season should be a blast.
My pharmacy in delray got a letter saying they couldn't give more hours so they let go of a few techs. These a--holes don't care about patient safety or there employees. We already have lots of work and now they fired 3 techs because of greed. We are doing more than last year and less techs? I hope big karma comes to these a--holes
This post is a year old but we are just seeing this happening in our area! Curious to see if being certified will carry weight when tech layoffs start or if it will truly be last in - first out.
What is it with being laid off while on PTO? Same thing happened to me.
As a pharmacy manager I lost one cashier/otc stocker to this round of layoffs. I can tell you that performance played no part in the decision of who to let go, and I had no input at all into the decision. The person they chose only makes sense if they were doing last hired first fired. It may be different for pharmacists, I don't know because we didn't lose any.
Recently let go pulled into he back 60 days pay and info on a so called Severence package. Tech with exprience prior to Walmart and total time at Walmart of 8 months. Certified by Walmart and one of the top techs at our store. But I was also last one in so first one out Is what I would like to believe but I could be wrong. Very curious to how this so called severance package will look like since I didn't have a year even in at Walmart
I heard that it has to do with how your manager ranks you versus other employees. If you're the bottom rank then you get cut. No idea if that's true though.
What is HR going to do? They laid off most of the HR group anyways I heard.
Newbie here. I got laid off after 1 year. I see no rhyme or reason to the layoffs. I heard they used an algorithm. Chicago, IL.
I don't get it...really, I don't! What has happened to the department protocol of "last in, first out?" How can this "new" approach be legally acceptable? When positions are cut in a department, the last person hired into that department in a particular position should naturally be the first to leave. Are you associates that are sharing your experiences here on The Layoff.com given an opportunity to take your grievances to your HR representative? What's up with the back room terminations and calls of termination while on PTO? This is more than crazy...
I smell a class action lawsuit coming... I was with them 8 years and 20 years experience.
Confirmed! I was a pharmacist with Wal-Mart for over 14 years and they kept the newbies over me who of course are more error prone and actually making those errors. Obviously, I was making more than them due to time in with the company. They are both older than me so the age thing doesn't apply to my situation but less time with Wal-Mart and making less. I think it's simple math this time around. Some schmuck in a cubicle is making decisions because it "looks" good on a spreadsheet and they have no clue how this will impact the business. They are going to lose customers over longer wait times and it will cost them more money in errors/lawsuits. Don't be surprised when they come knocking back on our doors but offering less money LOL.
Now on to severance, a friend of mine looked up the current severance policy on the Wire for me and it says 2 weeks for every full year you were with the company and 1 week for every $20,000 base salary. Like others, I was given 2 months paid (not severance and I was told that specifically) and I would be receiving more information regarding my severance in about a month. I also only get paid 1 week of PTO regardless of what I had saved up because it's not vacation and it's PTO so it falls under the PTO policy. Can anyone confirm the Severance/PTO stuff? Would be nice to start planning and not wait a month to find out more.
Read the other threads. Lots of people believe it is age descrimination, but how do you prove it? Only way would be to get some of the HR personnel who were involved to testify. And unless HR was hit in one of the layoff waves, that won't happen.
Walmart will replace u with a robot I would say fillout an application with CVS
Were you both the last ones hired in your areas?
