Thread regarding Career Education Corp. layoffs

Sad but true state of Career education

I stopped accepting teaching assignments with CTU and AIU because of this schizophrenic attitude towards grading. The rubrics you have to use are so 'flexible' that you can drive a truck through them.

Students are used to getting good grades from professors who have clearly given up and so when you actually try to grade according to what is considered acceptable work at other institutions you end up dealing with an email expletive_storm from both ends, students and administrators, because the large number of Ds and Fs in my classes. These students (business program) can't write. Period. There is no logical flow to anything they write. No structure. No analysis. 90% of the students in my classes should have not graduated from high school and somehow they did. The worst part was these students trying to waive their 3.89 GPA in my face as if that was some reason to give them an A. I sent an email to the Lead and showed them the horrible student work, the student email with the 3.89 and just asked HOW? I got nothing back.

I asked a similar thing, @PIKQIoJ-2tna. Their silence was deafening.

CEC seems to hire mainly two types of management for their schools. Retired military and minorities. Mostly they will do anything to keep students and a paycheck coming. Most have for-profit degrees. All for-profit schools are doing is lessening the value of the college degree. HR businesses know what schools have value and which do not and they apply that formula in hiring. Many of the professors are good people, just trying to make an honest living, in a dishonest field.

The formula to keep getting classes is simple. Pass everyone, if they did anything and don't ask any questions or question any unethical behavior. Just shut up, collect your check and drink alcohol to appease yourself for selling your ethics so cheap.

So, riddle me this: Who are these losers who are still teaching for these lying, cheating, ethical nightmares of educational institutions? Are these all people who got for-profit degrees themselves and can't find anybody at a legitimate school to give them a job? Reason I'm asking, I had to come here to get an idea of what teaching at these for-profits was all about and why we won't hire professors with for-profit degrees and for-profit teaching experience. Eye-opening!!
