Thread regarding Nexen Inc. layoffs

Nexen layoffs

The Nexen layoffs will come in some quantities over the next several weeks (say less than 50 per week so as not to get on the news). Major layoffs coming in 2018.

Layoffs (and some transfers) will take place in Q3 as integration works its way down to the corporate structure. Some parts of the new organization will see more layoffs than other parts.

You still think that there will not be major layoffs in 2018 and it is just gossip? How is outsourcing not going to result in layoffs? How is integration not going to result in layoffs? But, you must know that this is just gossip. Widespread gossip. In fact, Nexen is hiring, right?

There are more layoffs coming. Not sure why people say the layoffs have stopped because they started shortly after the CNOOC purchase of Nexen and have continued for the last 4+ years. There were about 50 people in Q3/Q4 of this year. They are always careful to keep it under 50 so that it's not reportable to the government. The 36 floor building that used to house over 2000 people is more than half empty because of layoffs. And, if you subtract the amount of Chinese that have been brought in to take over jobs, you'll find that there isn't much left of the "Canadian" company that they purchased. Obviously, the government isn't watching over the commitments that were made by CNOOC when they were given approval to purchase Nexen. CNOOC will also be dropping the Nexen name early in 2018. Horrible place to be right now.

I also heard that there were layoffs coming due to outsourcing. Does anyone think this is not correct? I see there was a reply saying no major layoffs at Nexen. Are they just transitioning the people whose jobs are being outsourced to new roles within the company?
