Thread regarding International Game Technology layoffs

We just got laid off

Many of us in the San Francisco Interactive office were let go. Some of our group members in London were let go as well. We are barely making it here even with jobs given the cost of living in the bay, and now I am out of a job right before Christmas. My husband just got laid off about a month ago as well. I don't know what we are going to do.

San Francisco is no place for sane humans. Use this opportunity to get out of that den of depravity and evil.

I am afraid to tell you as part of management thAt layoffs are not over. Capex is now mandatory review, synergies are the norm, and we are told to tighten belts, and look once a year if a person isn’t needed even for short term. We could hire new again after 2 years and then repeat and rinse.

Then according to your advice the people making 24 per hour should move too then right? Get off of your high horse. People making minimum wage feel the same about you.

You seriously complaining?

  1. Your salary is most likely over 100k

  2. Your skills are valuable.

  3. You most likely gave an awesome package deal with tons more money

  4. You choose to stay in a city where only millionaires live and jobs pay on avg over 100k per person up to millions.

Move out, get a new job and stop complaining as others only make 24/hr and live in hard to find job areas and need to find a way to buy food.

if I can offer a word of clarity.

Your initial inclination will be to "think positive" and expect to have another good job in no time. The problem with that thinking is it will require you to go into a lot of debt to continue your current lifestyle.

Right your ship as much and as fast as you can, regardless of the lifestyle and image resistance you may feel. If it means leaving the Bay, and it probably does, do it and do it ASAP. Once you're on your feet and not sinking fast, you can always re-focus and try to get back in.

Everything is harder when you're under stress, and the stress you'd be under would be enormous. Don't do that to yourselves. Do whatever it takes to reduce your stress so you can sleep at night and have time to get back on your feet.

All the best
