Thread regarding United Technologies Corp. layoffs

Management in need of people skills

I get that this is a big company and we can get lost in the shuffle. I also get that there is an old school way of thinking. What I don’t get is why we lost so many promising and talented individuals due to the fact that some people in management have felt threatened by them.

As leaders you should be trying to retain the top talent we have, but instead I’ve witness coworkers who have been belittled and provided with absolutely no words of encouragement or guidance.

Really, is your ego more important than the company? More important than the talent of any individuals who could be a great asset to United? Get your act together. You shouldn’t feel threatened by another person’s skillset. Instead take advantage of it to help the company progress forward.

...and another thing, maybe the true EGOs are coming from all the so-called talented know-it-all kids getting out of big dollar schools and expect to be at $100K to start because they can play a little in CAD.

One person says they promote kids, the other says it's managed by old timers. Sounds like neither one of you know what your talking about.

They kept on promoting young kids to managers without any skills or knowledge. All they know is to please the guys above and kiss A--.

Too many old timers who have been with the company for decades trying to lead a culture change. It's laughable. You want change, let the new blood be in charge. If these 25 - 30 year employees are so good, why are you stuck in the dark ages now?
