Thread regarding BB&T Corp. layoffs

Why were they let go?

Roughly 6 months ago at a BB&T branch two of my coworkers who have been with the company for at least 15 years came in one day and were let go. As far as everyone in the branch were aware of, they were exemplary employees who were given no notice while 2 employees from another branch were there to fill their shoes before they had time to walk out the door.

I am unclear on the reasons why, but these women were a vital part of the everyday processes in my branch and were considered vital assets to the company and fellow employees. The loss of working side by side with them so suddenly was such a shock and caused an environment of fear and anxiety.

I tell myself, if this can happen to an employee who has been loyal to the company for that many years, it can happen to anyone, no matter how much tenure you have. No position is safe.

BB&T let me go back in October after 30 years with them. Loyalty does not matter anymore.

Amen they lay off people all the time especially if you are a woman over 40 with some tenure. Pack your bags sisters. It’s all about profits for shareholders that’s why ceo and coo take home fat checks with bonuses to boot. Do yourselves a favor instead of sweating the next unavoidable layoff -just leave.

I too was the victim of a layoff at the bank and the real reason behind the layoff is that tenured employees with many years of service cost BB&T more money than they want to pay. Executive management takes home more in the way of bonuses and shareholders are happy because the stock price has slowly been increasing. As usual BB&T employees are taking it on the chin!
