Today we rolled out the Marketing 2020 program, a new operating model for Global Marketing. As you know, a core team of Marketing leaders been working on this for several months. With inputs from Marketing teams across the globe, we built a new operating model that creates clarity around roles, enables agility so we can respond to customer needs, and helps us make the impact we want to make in our markets.
With the new operating model, new roles were created and others were eliminated. These were incredibly tough decisions that we spent countless hours deliberating. As a result, we have let 59 employees know that their positions are going away. Each of these individuals has made valuable contributions to Illumina. We are partnering with HR to help affected employees explore new roles in Marketing, elsewhere in the company, or outside of Illumina.
This is a lot of change, and you probably have a lot of questions. Each of the Global Marketing leaders is hosting a group meeting where you’ll learn more about how your team will work in the new model. The Global Marketing Leadership Team is also hosting Global Marketing Town Halls on Thursday and Friday to share more about the new operating model. Outlook invitations to these will be going out shortly.
As we start working in the new model, we need to hear from you. We want you to help us understand what’s working and what’s not. Please be open with your leaders about your questions and seek clarity when you need to.
On behalf of the Global Marketing Leadership Team, thank you for your understanding and support during this time and for your commitment to Illumina and Global Marketing. When we started the Marketing 2020 journey, our goal was to make it easier for everyone in Marketing to do great work. There’s no doubt in my mind that what we have set in motion will accomplish this and that we will enable Illumina and our customers have an even greater impact on human health.
