Thread regarding Hess Corp. layoffs

Hess layoffs January 15 - 19 week

Currently about 2300 Employees hearing that reduction will be about 35% (780 people). Out of those people cut supposedly 80-85% will be Houston personnel.

Reorganization starts on Tuesday!

Found this info in an old thread, thought it belonged on top so more people can see it. Looks like we are looking at a bloodbath.

Spent awhile at this company.....was high enough up the chain to know most of the SVP's and VP's on a first name basis. I chose to get the hell outta there. The constant promotion of the "Aera boys" would actually make ya puke in your mouth a little bit. They'll tell you that they want strong leaders who will "speak up" and "ask the hard questions"....but only if you do it to someone else. If you question an idea that came from the Aera playbook then you were pretty much blacklisted on the spot. Just look at who's still there running the joint. So......if you're ever interviewing with the current leadership just spew a bunch a B.S. about LEAN and how great you think Aera is and you'll be in like flynn.....on your way to Fat City. And by Fat City I really mean the worst time of your working career.

That company is a joke. If you are an insider you know they let go people with great knowledge and experience and kept the same morons they keep promoting with no merit. It is all about who you know and the amount of a** kissing you perform. It's so unfair to those who are truly dedicated and know how to do their jobs. If they truly want to recover the company they need to clean house but they need to start from those at the top who have gotten there for many reasons but merit, knowledge and hard work. Otherwise, this is a sinking ship.

This company is definitely top heavy. If I were redesigning their organization structure, this is how it would like:

President and CEO ( 1 person)

Senior VP - Finance

VP - Finance

VP - Accounting

Senior VP - Exploration and Production ( 1 person)

VP - Exploration

VP - Production

Senior VP - Legal and Services (1 person)

VP - Government Affairs and Corporate Responsibility

VP - Legal

VP - EHS

VP - IT

VP - Supply Chain

In other words, this company needs only 3 Senior VP's and 9 VP's. Give more span of control to everyone including directors and managers so you don't need too many of these positions either. But no, they will keep it top heavy and layoff the little guys and gals. I am really sorry for the people who are being let go. Good luck to all.

If they really want to save cost, tney know where to look. Too many VPs and directors. They always layoff the people that actually do the job while protecting their friends.

Growing timber? The only thing happening is chopping timber. This place is a joke! I've seen good people let go and crappy people retained.....

A family member got cut off. Looking at the list, it does not look like cost cutting but head count cutting and politically motivated. Too much politics!!!

I heard that Specialists, Advisors and Managers to be hit the hardest. Being from Houston I fully expect us to take the biggest reduction; the Bakker will more than likely lose redundant positions as we swing control back to the Assets.

I doubt these figures are exact. Let us all stop spreading rumors.

Tuesday is going to be a sh---show. I hope Phoenicia is ready to serve up the drinks. That’s where I’ll be headed regardless of the outcome.
