Thread regarding Petco Animal Supplies layoffs

You can't grow while shrinking your work force.

So Petco wants to grow but they are cutting staff. They are making money in some areas and not "enough" in other areas so where are they investing in new technology? Not the profitable part of the company. Nope. Let's throw money at broken operations. Seems focusing on what you do well isn't something you learn in college anymore.

Extended aisle was a joke. New iPads and iPods for what? No one ever bought anything online in the store, either they went to a different pet store because they needed it that day or would go home and order it on Amazon. It was mostly SL and GEL buying personal items to stay out of trouble.

The companion animal regional manager was just completely useless in both states I worked in. Anyone from corporate was basically useless as well.

Petco really needs to leave live animals to mom and pop stores, downsize and sell just hardgoods and food.

There is lots of room for improvement, lots of bad practices and policies to fix. The difference is that any profit generated still won't be enough to satisfy the investors who basically want to bleed the company out of all the profits to the penny. No matter what the employees do, more with less or not, the profits will never be enough to satisfy the investment company, so until they actually get their fill and sell Petco, every year will be the same thing until it's either all cheap labor or there isn't anyone left to support the company. Nobody is immune. They will eventually outsource HR too. That's why nobody should be an a-- to people on the way out, because they likely will be in the same boat in a year or two as well.
