Thread regarding Bass Pro Shops layoffs

OPPORTUNITY?

For months the Bass staff has heard from our leaders how much opportunity this buyout of Cabelas was going to create for them. We are not 9 months into the buyout so lets evaluate all of the opportunity that has been created for Bass Pro staff:

CFO - filled with Cabelas staff that was just issued a fine of over $1million dollars for improper reporting of financial information.

Finance Director - filled with Cabelas staff. See above for handling of finances.

IT Director - Bass IT Director released, Cabelas IT Director placed into position.

VP of HR - filled with Cabelas staff that has no formal HR training, background or college education. Had to have consultant onsite to train her.

Director of HR - filled with not one but two Cabela's staff.

Director of Training - Bass Training Director released, Cabelas Director placed into position. Seems to be a relationship with VP of HR.

Operations - filled by two Cabelas staff.

Seems to be that the only opportunity that has been created has been for the Cabelas team. No interviews conducted, no positions posted, no staff from Bass Pro considered and Cabelas team continuing to prosper and surround themselves with their "inner circle" that helped Cabelas get acquired by Bass Pro. Seems that JM and his team has forgotten all about the people that helped get the company to where they are today and to have the power to buyout their biggest competitor. So when exactly will this opportunity for loyal and faithful BPS staff happen? Many have already given up and are just afraid to voice their opinions and concerns for fear of retaliation. Sad times for Bass team.

Wow, what about all the employees of Cabela's who lost their jobs. Wonder what the numbers are for lost jobs at BassPro and the numbers for lost jobs at Cabela's.

Do believe that BassPro will sink the Cabela's branded product for the cheaper that BassPro sells and that is sad for the customers.

"The team bashing here is ugly, these are supposed to be your team mates, yet Springfield can't let go of the ego" -- Who's egos are you talking about ? Cabela’s arrogant, this is the way we do it , so you’re going to do it OUR way even though we lost lots of money and were going bankrupt? And let’s talk about the TEAMS, before Cabela’s most departments were 1 big team, working together. But now We have so many broken compartmentalized teams ran by nothing but Cabelas Managment, which leads us back to the Egos and this is how we Ran Cabela’s attitudes.

"Management leads by example and the ego used in this purchase matches the Good Ole Boy Springfield Staff."-- Yes your right again ,our management now have Egos, having meetings with other Cabela’s teams they worked with before , making decisions without any input from a BPS team member. Throwing their power play around as in statement of " I have the ear of the upper management and they listen to what I say"

“Meanwhile, Jimmy Wart is completely destroying a culture, a customer experience, a small town, a brand,”--- So who is destroying your culture ? The overpaid, egotistical team that lead it down the toilet in the first place? Because let’s be honest, they are the ones in charge “Still” they are the ones making the decisions , they are the one spending money like there is no tomorrow. Their answer is, we throw money at it, we hire more people that will fix it.

“will the time come to see if BPS can carry the weight of the Cabela's Titanic,” – that is one correct statement Cabela’s was a Titanic. A blotted and overpaid management team, family members, friends, and neighbors living high on the hog on those upper decks of the ship. While the real works at the stores and DC are generating as much as they can to keep that behemoth boat afloat. Maybe Jimmy Wart should have let that ship sink and seen all of the staff and Upper Management struggle out there in the water. Then he could have save a ton of money by picking it up for pennies on the dollar.

So lets be realistic, Cabela’s members have their own cultural issues, and maybe they need to learn to knock the chip off their shoulders. And instead of making statements like “Good old boys” and “Jimmy Wart “ actually think of working as a team. Because statements like that make you just as bad if not worse than the Good old boy staff. The street flows both ways, and you need to adjust your ego just like everyone else does. Because in the end Jimmy Wart writes the checks and if he doesn’t see what he wants on the bottom line things won’t be pretty. All those management salaries will make a nice chunk of change Jimmy won’t have to throw down that hole to fix that sinking ship if they are gone. Because being on that upper deck partying like there is no problem, and not down in the trenches realizing there was a problem with their Culture isn’t the right attitude to take.

Glad the Cabela's people aren't the only ones that quickly saw through the VP of HR and the her dad created positions for her and her siblings. Every position she she left was never re-filled so that should tell you how important she (and her created positions) was there.

Be interesting to see the outcome of BPS. They have pretty big shoes to fill, its funny all the hate towards the Cabela's staff that moved from Sidney to Springfield. Deep down they will be deemed "Another CABELA'S Idiot" in the Springfield HQ... "Better together" (pffffffffttttttt, ya right). The team bashing here is ugly, these are supposed to be your team mates, yet Springfield can't let go of the ego. Seems fitting though, Management leads by example and the ego used in this purchase matches the Good Ole Boy Springfield Staff. (Way to welcome your new neighbor).

Meanwhile, Jimmy Wart is completely destroying a culture, a customer experience, a small town, a brand, and some families all to "free up Cash Flow" to pay back the loan from Goldman. (WHAT A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR CABLEA'S STAFF! I'm sure they are thrilled to be writing $80-$100k checks to relocate to an area so welcoming of their expertise!)

This time next year, will the time come to see if BPS can carry the weight of the Cabela's Titanic, or will it Sink due to its own slash and burn attitude of its largest competitors culture and watch as the customers simply go elsewhere?

Pretty sad a lot of families are going to feel the pain of this, all for a few to pound their chest and shout down from the top of the mountain.

CFO not CIO, BPS would be back to a better place if the CIO did get fired. It would knock the wind out of what is still a tainted CAB culture.

Love this:

VP of HR - filled with Cabelas staff that has no formal HR training, background or college education. Had to have consultant onsite to train her.

I’ve been saying it and I’ll keep saying it, most of the Cabelas upper management just got hired because of their last name and who they knew or married into. No education, sh-- for brains who go to meeting and throw their weight around and steal the ideas of their people and pass them on as their own. Perfect

The opportunity for the BPS staff is to move on, or toil away as a Subordinate. Either way, one would hope Jim and John will wake up and see the bottom line for revenue looks like Cabelas before they were put in the position to go bankrupt or be sold. As most people know the only way to make revenue is to control labor and cost. But when you bring in layers on layers of Management that are making more money than the current management at BPS. It makes you wonder if during this Merger someone was sold a bill of goods. Only time will tell as we see more BPS staff heading for the door as CAB employee are taking over their spots
