Unemployment benefits

Anyone looked into qualifications for unemployment benefits? What's the bottom line? Do we qualify or not?

@3srs - you are correct in some aspects. Current length of time for CA is 26 vweeks. Benefits can be extended IF there is high unemployment in the state at that time. If not, the limit is 26 weeks. A friend's daughter got hers extended some years ago when CA's unemplyment rate was high. Mine was not extended after the 2015 layoff because unemployment levels were low.

@3hfp the law changed in 2014. States can have different weeks of unemployment. NC 19 weeks. CA AND TX 43-63 weeks.

Unemployment benefits are only paid for 6 months - not 12 to 18 months. The amount you receive depends on how much you made in a quarter from the previous year. The max you can receive per month is $450.

Yes, UE insurance is payed by Qc, thru EDD. It's money Qc had paid to EDD during your employment. You can apply anytime (I did May 5th, but since I'm getting the WARN money I don't collect money yet). As soon as your 'not paid any longer' you'll get the money, ~$450/week. So apply regardless of what you have going on. If you wait till you're not paid, it will take 2-3 weeks to start collecting. I got a job and contacted EDD and ended my claim. It's painless, but still a hassel since it's a gummnt practice. BUT - the money comes from Qc's wallet, not the state.

Unemployment Eligibility in California

Not LR-ed but wanted to know - if you are cut, can you get Unemployment benefits - I am asking because of the severance payment as I think that severance will render you ineligible for unemployment - not sure how EDD looks at this but if you have info please chime in from the Cisco perspective.

Anyone else having problems collecting unemployment?

My state shows no record of unemployment being paid by Chevron for me. Been contacting HR for help for weeks now and keep getting run around of proof where it's at.

If you were part of the RIF you're eligible for unemployment benefits (in California at least). You can file on or after your termination date.
