Thread regarding GE Power layoffs

GE closing Salem plant

GE sent the union a letter announcing its intentions to cease manufacturing at Salem. An engineering center will remain (for how long)? Plant employed 3500 at its peak. Only 500 or so left, with about half of those in manufacturing. This has been coming for a long time, but still tough to see.

I don't know why they even care about bad publicity anymore. They already sold off all of the consumer product divisions that angry peons might avoid buying goods from because of bad news. GE no longer needs love from the little guy because it doesn't affect them.

It’s funny that hourly layoffs are the only one that make the news, and that’s because of the union. Salaried layoffs are never mentioned. GE loves layoffs, but hates the bad publicity.
