Thread regarding USAA layoffs


I’ve been working here for about three years now, cannot complain much as I’ve seen much worse places in my 20+ year long career. As I expected, I am completely tied to a phone/schedule – this is often depressing but you learn to deal with this.

Our financial advice side is very much like a small afterthought if it’s contrasted to P&C and Banking. USAA is lagging on the tech side too, things are improving but it’s still bad and outdated. The same goes for The Brokerage, it’s improving but it’s still way behind.

The thing that gets me is the feeling that there is no path up and that I will not be able to advance – breaking into the management layer is very hard and it’ll likely not happen, if I stay on the individual contributor side, here at USAA I can go up to III or SR, but what are my benefits there – the pay jump will be minimal but responsibilities will significantly go up – so really, does it even make sense to move up???

I wish if USAA was to resurrect LWOP and continue to rapidly improve technology for:

  • Customers

  • Vendors

  • Employees

If this was to be done things would improve across the board and we’ll be more competitive, more opportunities would open up and growth will satisfy career needs of many that feel stuck right now. And somebody please, do the metric goals right and on time – not in the middle of year and substandard.
