Thread regarding Universal Technical Institute Inc. layoffs

...so, does anyone else have any issues with the two 8:00 shifts a week? I think the company has lost its mind.

Instructor story here.

When I started there they wanted everyone to work a 34 hour workweek. If you wanted 40 you had to double course and ended up with 60. It almost cost me a marriage. I finally just worked my 40 and did training aid repair. They would say something but never did anything about it. They they switched everyone to a 40 workweek. Every location did it different. Usually they wanted you to double one day a week as a lab assistant. So, you worked four 6.5 hour days and made up your 40 on day 5. Everyone cheated and some got caught.

I think its sad that they cant just put everyone on an 8 hour day and 40 hour week. Period. As far as the instructors go. They are constantly switching their shifts. Sometimes nights, sometimes days. No other business does this to their people. You are hired for a shift and can actually have a life and plan things. I brought this up many times and nobody cares. Pay a shift differential and hire for day shift and evening shift. Thats what everyone else does.

I cant believe the staff puts up with this. Uncertainty of having a job, Uncertainty of what shift you work, benifits sūck. Everyone is hiring, why the hell would you still work there?

Sad.

When I started working at UTI (administration), we worked until 8pm at least twice a week. It s---ed, but that was the deal back then. UTI is on life support. Most young men I meet in college or out of college that heard of UTI say they considered attending because cars are cool and everything. When I ask them why they didn't sign up, they say "too expensive". It is too expensive and it's hard to sell a $40,000 certificate. Even I wouldn't support my child attending UTI and I worked there. I'm sorry for admissions, you guys must be under a lot of pressure. That being said,UTI Rancho is finally leasing office space. I know there was talk about it before, but now the sign is up. Space in the first and second floor. Sad times.

At this point most of you will probably lose your job soon enough. It isn't just UTI. Higher Ed is struggling all over. UTI is flatlining though faster than most and rightfully so. It is apparent the way they run the place and treat their employees. UTI isn't the only company in existance. Don't fear leaving and don't fear losing your job. There are so many more places that actually like their employees and treat you with dignity. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

how does not having a job negatively effect your work/life balance? I'm guessing even worse.

Admissions has to work until 8:00 2 nights a week, which negatively effects work/life balance and makes it very hard for single parents to adhere to. They are taking a horrible approach... "its my way or the highway". Forget about everything that you have contributed to the company... if you don't like it, get another job... so sad to see how this company transitioned from a company in which everyone wanted to be a part of to a company where everyone is trying to flee from.

That's what happened to me. Steve W. from Exton made up stories about me and conspired with the campus president and other directors (not from Exton) to get me fired. Called their bluff but in the end it didn't matter. Glad to be out. In the end karma will win. It'll be a bit#@ when the hammer falls. UTI is toxic. People, there is freedom on the other side. Get out now if you can.

It is so sad. I used to love this company, but now I am trying to figure out my exit strategy. Instead of having layoffs, they want to make working conditions so horrible that everyone will quit on their own.

Downhill and fast.

Get a regular job with regular hours and regular benefits.

Why in the hell would anyone work there?

find another job. these new hours and hoops everyone is jumping through is a last ditch effort to save the company. if it doesn't work, and work spectacularly, then you'll have all the free time you can handle.

Its unreal, I cant believe a company that used to pride themselves on taking care of their people are now treating their people so bad, Being forced to work paid holidays and now being forced to work until 8 PM 2 nights a week, many of us are single parents and this just kills us.
