Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

IT restructuring at HP

Looks like a lot of restructuring about to happen in IT....you know what that means...

I have come to hate the word restructuring. It is nothing than a sneaky way to announce layoffs without actually using the word layoffs. I guess they think it's gonna bring less negative publicity or something...

You want to talk about restructuring? Look what happened at HPE! First they torpedo the whole IT org by send 90% to DXC leaving less than 200 people to run the show. Then Spradley jumps ship after ITs been wrecked for a sweet CTO job at Tyson.

This in turn left Schulz to run the show, but surprise! Behind his back Meg was secretly hiring a new CIO and never intended to keep him in that position. Forget that fact that she sent out a congratulatory email about how HPE promotes from within.

Long story short Schulz got the boot and so did a bunch of IT VPs and regular folks! I guess the new CIO had to make room for her stooges. It’s okay though. They all found new jobs. Many of them landed at Tyson of all places. Plus many left of their own free will simply because the environment was so toxic.

Best book on HP is "Becoming Hewlett Packard." A chapter on each CEO.

@5koh - TY for you response. I recall reading an online article regarding The up coming retiring of LP 1999. There “was” a head-hunter at the time, trouble past then present, now pasted deff past. Deceased now, whom was responsible for the culling of CF. The individual after the fact realized the mistake “he” and HP had made. I dont have the link, google it. In-short, IMHO., after DP passed, I saw a major change developing. Do you or anyone else know who was on the board before, and after? I feel that common sense left, replaced with ?. Too bad WH was kicked to the curb. I find it interesting that it was HP, then Agilent, now Key-site (on purpose), and - enterprise group, -Inc, and god knows what next. The pendulum is swinging.

"Why didn’t HP pursue smart phones and a tablet?" In a word, Arrogance! At the Palo Alto site there was a conference room in 4 lower with demos of all the different use models of the Information Appliance (aka what we now know as a smart phone). Rumor has it that Steve Jobs got a look at it and that vision became the iPhone and brought over $800B into Apple. When Carly set up the Embedded and Personal Systems division to pursue that vision she also hired a president who's claim to fame was in changing the color of pagers from black to purple which drew in a younger crowd. This was the level of what CF was looking for, not the significant effort that Apple was willing to do. HP spent a year or two in search of the next "Purple Pager" and then she nuked the entire group when she bought Compaq. It still pains me to hear her talk about how wonderful she feels she was as CEO.

HP Stock at Carly's appointment as CEO (July 1999): $25.91

HP Stock at Carly's departure (July 2005): $10.98

(adjusted for 2:1 split in 2000 and departure of HPE in 2015)

APPL Stock (July 1999): $1.90

APPL Stock (July 2005): $6.09

(adjusted for 2:1 split in July 2000 and Feb 2005 and 7:1 July 2014)

iPhone release 2007

And then there is HP's (HPE) disastrous stab at playing in the cloud business, but that's another story.

HP Inc is “one” of the threads on this site that has very low activity. This is good! Question for you whom have managed to survive the Layoffs ( I was pushed out in 2002). Why didn’t HP pursue smart phones and a tablet? I know, Web OS. From what I have read., Web OS could have been a solid platform? When I was kicked to the curb, CF was ape crazy with the Compaq bust. TFF....sad really. We saw this Titanic coming! Once an awesome place to work. Karma will prevale. Best -m

They do have a big project to create two new ERP systems and get rid of the legacy ERPs and many of the support systems. I assume it's part of that effort. It's not a simple thing to do and it would require restructuring the teams and work.

Might not be as bad as it sounds.
