Thread regarding Safeway Inc. layoffs

And so it continues...

Another day, another Safeway closing...

Safeway is closing one of its grocery stores in northeast Portland.

A spokesperson for Safeway confirmed the store at Northeast 122nd Avenue and Glisan Street was expected to shut down by Aug. 18.

Something positive though - I joined recently, the store manager is a a bully and threatens to fire literally everyone almost every day and we are so short staffed with tons of attrition...

I had a customer come up to me and tell me that she had lost her phone a couple weeks ago and came to customer service in a panic mode and was on the verge of tears but my (apparently) level-headed approach to helping her find her phone and covering all the bases and asking her to maybe check her car again lead to her calming down and locating her phone under her car seat.

English isn't her first language, but her "you calmed me down and helped me think and I found it. You should be a psychiatrist. You are kind" almost made me cry on the spot.

I'm yelled at by everyone constantly (aka all customer service experience) so this rare glimmer of kindness and praise really made me happy.

That moment was then followed by some customer yelling at me for being unprofessional because I didn't know the floral person had left 30 minutes before I directed their call to floral and threatened to call corporate.
