Only blind would buy DN, only fool would buy N
"And frankly looking at the capability, we are seeing some significant opportunities in automotive for basically taking a network architecture and applying that to the car "
So what does that mean for the present microcontroller solutions that NXP sells into the Auto space. One thing you can say about RC is when he goes in from on analysts he spews the buzzwords they want to hear. Problem is he is making big bets he won't be able to cover. if DN does become central to the car (which makes sense by the way and its amazing why he gutted the division before he figured that out because when it was Freescale they knew it then) then some other part of Auto is going to see big cuts. Under Freescale they had the divisions correct. DN was specifically to deal with connected micro solutions, Auto was about reliable micros, sensors and ASIC's and Microcontrollers filled the gap for general industry. In hindsight NXP would have been a lot better off if Freescale was the dominant partner and Gregg Lowe stayed on to drive growth in the main sectors. NXP was more of a gap filler for Freescale. NXP on the other hand destroyed Freescale divisions by stripping the divisions of technology and attempting to merge them into their divisions which had, by and large, failed to be as successful as Freescale. Lets not forget that there was only about a billion difference in revenues but Freescale was operating are far more lean operation which tells you something about productivity, output and management.
large layoffs are not planned, is what we were told today. Did you get your info from corporate - maybe they know better?
Well OP, unless you had buried your head in the sand, all this was well broadcasted. So clearly you are not from Nxp, just trolling here. the only interesting thing you can do is mention dates when this will happen, that is if you really know anything.
Not true that workforce merge is old news. RC did not say it will merge DN in other businesses. Instead, he said that "And frankly looking at the capability, we are seeing some significant opportunities in automotive for basically taking a network architecture and applying that to the car ".
TareqB instead said a month ago that DN is looking for a "big brother". He hoped it will be QCOM. However, more recently, there were no rumours that DN will be merged into other business groups. Two weeks ago, one third of the DN team in Romania was moved to other business group, ahead of QCOM deal. But nothing else.
Workforce merge is old news, was relayed everywhere by RC publicly and TB. Large layoffs is a relative term, you have any real info on numbers? And when? Or you are just trying to troll here! You big boss was probably some id--t from marketing....
