Thread regarding Phillips 66 layoffs

Be prepared if you are over 50

Phillips 66 seems to be laying people off not by how well they do their job but by how old they are and how long they've been with the company.

Nobody over 50 is safe here. This week will be really bad, especially for the older workers.

I'm just not sure how those on top plan to run the company when all of its best workers are gone...

I hope the new college grads inexperienced work will not give the shareholders all that Greg has promised them. New college grads think they are wonderful but they are laughable at most.

Sounds like until 2020 they are going to continue to lay off employees.

So they will look at the 35 to 45 year old people...after the 50 somethings are gone..

Come on you guys, laying off people of age is age discrimination... The lawyers will line up at the doors...

If you don't sign the severance letter, you do not get the severance but you do have the ability to take legal actions against the company for age discrimination or a class action suite if there is evidence that the company is severing people because of age...

We all knew layoffs would come at some point with Advantage66, but it appears something caused Sr. Mgmt. to accelerate there plans in the last 2 weeks. Didn't feel great but we at least got Severance, Accrued Vacation, and will get Pro-rated Bonus next Feb./Mar. This is the Energy Industry and, like it or not, it's part of the lay of the land. Thoughts and Prayers to all affected.

Exactly - giving big corps a huge chunk of cash for stock buybacks apparently doesn’t stop layoffs. Talk about a backfire.

You left because the company may have staff reductions? Hate to break it to you, but that's every single company ever... especially in this industry. Make yourself valuable and hope it's recognized. All you can really do.

Not to say it’s “right” but anyone who is surprised hasn’t been paying attention for the last 12 months. Advantage 66 was an efficiency project. Leadership indicated there would be staff reductions by not refuting it when asked on day 1. To be fair, some of it is necessary, to some extent - the company is so far behind its peers in tech and systems. Doesn’t make you feel great from a humanitarian perspective but if you think this is anything more than a shareholders first company, you’ve been lying to yourself. It’s all been there since day one. Announce it after good earnings and in a strong economy, Garland’s own words in the Bartlesville Examiner, you absolve yourself of moral responsibility. This is why I left. The grass is greener. My husband is over 50 and has been passed over even with high marks. How can they justify boasting a 250% success one day and layoffs in the same week. Thought we came to a great company for my husband to retire in...I guess we are wrong. SMH..
