Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

Reprieve for SOME Houston MFG Workers for SOME Time...

Houston's attempt to move MFG to Austin Flextronixs has been (is being) a disaster, a debacle , complete with slipped schedules and massive costs over-runs. So now, those last lingering MFG workers in Houston (mostly contractors?), whose heads WERE on the chopping blocks, can breathe more easily for at least a little while. The upper management FINALLY figured out that just yelling at more and more people, more loudly, was't going to fix all of this... They actually needs some peons and workers to get the work done!

Maybe some sunny day they will ALSO figure out that ... OMG here it comes!!! Sometimes HPE managers CAN make mistakes, and lay off too many experienced workers!!! And that it MIGHT make sense to have just the TINIEST bit of humility, face one's mistakes... And HIRE BACK some of the workers that you laid off!!! (Violate your Sacred Black List, that is).

But I’m not holding my breath… I wonder sometimes if upper management treasures protecting their egos (NOT admitting mistakenly having laid off too many experienced workers for example) over their fiduciary duties. Would they violate their Sacred Black List if millions of dollars were on the line? I am not so sure…

Hi Move on With Life,

"Nothing happening whatsoever in Houston"

Good to know, but.. What KIND of nothing is happening in Houston? Are there any more floods scheduled in the near or medium or distant future, by Hurricane Imelda, Mother Nature, Gaia, or Global Warming, I mean, Global Climate Change? If so (floods), WHEN are they scheduled? ... Inquiring minds want to KNOW!!!

Well anyway, I hear that HPE wants to sell its facilities in Houston, due to all the recent floods, but... They are receiving offers of pennies on the dollar, for their real estate! So... Are they going to sell, at a HUGE loss (and torque off a bunch of employees with longer commutes, when they move), or are they going to hunker down, and stay?

Anyone have any clues?

Hi WhereisMyVectra,

I could be wrong but I am about 98% sure that "what is/was called AIC - the Americas Integration Center from M6 Houston" has been moved to sub-K -= Flextronics in Austin, Texas, instead... Later to be moved to Flextonics Mexico!

Thanks 8kch - Yes I know that the Chippewa Falls site is the former SGI site acquired by HPE. I'm curious as to how the move of what is/was called AIC - the Americas Integration Center from M6 Houston to the new site is doing.

Hi WhereisMyVectra,

"Chippewa Falls in Wisconsin" is former SGI facility bought out by HP / HPE, is still MFG-ing SGI stuff, plus some sort of high-end water-cooled biggish mainframe-ish computers (I do not know the legacy of these). So this is one of the very-very-very few (maybe the only) HPE MFG facilities left in the USA. SGI = Silicon Graphics Incorporated of course...

Spent several years at HP Houston - building M6 until 2013. Any news on how the transfer of some M6 work (complex integration) to Chippewa Falls in Wisconsin is working out ?

If I were a Houston HPE manager or worker, thinking about re-locating to Austin or Irving to take a Flextronics job, I would advise NOT to do it! CERTAINLY don't buy a house there, move a family, or make long-term leases!!! Why? Because HPE / Flex plans to yank all of this out of Austin-etc. and move it to Mexico Flex in 2019!!! (Early or late 2019, I am not sure). So what next, you ready to move to Mexico next?

The upper management just issues edicts and ignores that things aren't working (the Flex fire-up is a disaster). "Just make it happen" will eventually lead to the demise of HPE. It flops in Austin? Go flop it in Mexico! It flops in Mexico? Go to Berserkistan! It flops in Berserkistan? Give it to the lemurs in Madagascar, they have warm bodies, they can do it!

The managers are all scared for their own jobs. Flex isn't going to hire them.

Surely, you jest! One manufacturing building is being cleared out as you wrote this.
