WARN getting bypassed

Keeep hearing persistent rumors that US WARN notifications will not be triggered.

Any idea on how Hock’s loogies figured out how to bypass WARN, or if others have heard that WARN will definitely be triggered in some locations like Herndon or Islandia?

@VHFMg0Z-1djk That is all speculation and rumors. Most people in Islandia are not all that worried because nothing has been definitively said about the fate of the office. In fact, no one in either side of mgmt has said anything about there not being an Islandia location post acquisition.

So again, stop the fearmongering until we hear something concrete.

@VHFMg0Z-1yoj is correct. I also work at CA. If you think that everything is going to be hunky-dory, you are unfortunately going to be in for a shock. CA is going from 300 to 30 mgrs, I was told my status just before GDL posted that notifications will be delayed and most of my team was not told. Expect massive layoffs and if you are kept on, expect HUGE changes.

@VHFMg0Z-1eav I do work at CA. My post said worldwide impact. We will wait for Broadcom charge against earinngs in Nov to understand the total number.

That's right. And hock has been clear about his dislike for high cost locations. Islandia is one of the highest.

The only reason to keep Islandia open is if the cost to exit the lease is more than the savings gained by moving the office to a smaller and cheaper location. Broadcom has no ties to Long Island or Islandia, it is purely a financial equation, no more and no less.

5000 on day one is not happening. Don't believe the hype

@VHFMg0Z-owo Do you even work at CA? 5000 on day 1? Not going to happen. The US and Canada are the only places they can do a true day one RIF, and there are fewer than 6000 people left in NA if you exclude contractors. So do you really expect there to be about a 1000 left on day 1? Maybe that number after a year and any divestitures, but that is not happening on day 1.

There's literally not one reason for Broadcom to keep Islandia open.

Warn is being triggered for Islandia. Broadcom will be out of Islandia within 12 months. Smaller footprint on the Island is probable.

I don't know why you would hope to survive the RFI. Is the job market bad where you are?

Warn notice will be in effect for 5 states in the US. I am hearing up to 5,000 employees worldwide will be let go on day 1. NY is one of the locations.

Just adding to what others have said: it's mostly confirmed Islandia will still be around for the foreseeable future. The lease ends in a few years but I have heard from reliable sources that Broadcom will most likely lease a floor or two and maintain an Islandia footprint going forward.

Now we just need to hold our breath and hope we make it through the initial RIFs. Afterwards we are in the clear.

Note that the law in general in the US doesn’t require payment of severance. So anyone getting 60 days severance or more would qualify under WARN. It’s not regular severance plus 60.

There is a ton of info on how this is done (avoiding 60 day notice)

Islandia building will remain open for some time. WARN is triggered by the number of layoffs, not office closure.

Islandia Office will remain open! This is what I've been told by a few Federal folks that already know they have a position moving forward.

@VHFMg0Z-dnx Nothing is happening to Islandia apart from some cuts here and there. Stop spreading misinformation please.

WARNS can be handled in 2 ways.

One. a 60 day notice of a layoff is handed to employees. This happens the same time time that a WARN Act notice is sent to the state.

Two, employees are laid off with no notice but employer has to pay severance pay to the employee equal to WARN Act 60 day notice period.

Some states have higher time limits than the 60 day period so which one that longer time limit is the one that takes precedent

There's no way WARN doesn't get triggered for Islandia on Day 1.

90 days pay and benefits.

Transition roles you are still on payroll. November 5 letters go out giving people the option to transition.. warn’s will be filled for January at the earliest they would be done their transition assignment
