I haven’t been at this company very long, but I do agree there needs to be some reorg and realignment. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Do the cronies and tribal knowledge teams persist or do we change?

Let's face it, at the end of the day, only the new Dallas location and the new California location will survive with about 2000 employees in Dallas and 1000 employees in CA. You don't have to go far to figure out Nokia's plan, just look at what they did to Motorola. In my opinion and my guess, they would probably move optical to Canada/India, MN/FN (USA portion) to Dallas, and Bell-Labs to California or France/Germany. Let's see how it plays out. It all depends on customer demand. Until then, just keep working or/and start looking for another job.

Even if the site closes, the H1B employees will survive as they always have due to favoritism. The H1B guy begs for his job and gets to keep it by relocating, while the USA citizen who's doing the "same exact" job doesn't even get an offer to relocate and just gets laid off.

In my opinion, this is unfair practice especially since the H1B visa is a "temporary" work visa. Why should a USA citizen be cut doing the same exact job in the same group at the same location and not even be given a chance to relocate to save his/her job.
