Have you seen the stock? $10 from $22 this is an unstable company
My wife got the axe after 21 years. Asst. Manager who worked her a– off for that company. I had just retired in June and was counting on her medical insurance to carry me through till I can get medicare. A month later we got hit with this.
My W-2 was available online weeks ago... last one i'll ever get from them, good riddance.
W-2s coming later this week! What do you folks think of our new POS operating system? I think it's AWFUL! No "sign printing" functionality, scanning multiple quantities of the same SKU is extremely slow, and bottle deposit processing is VERY slow. (One of my associates had to ring up a 200-item order yesterday evening, which included 96 bottles of assorted carbonated ICE drinks. It took over a HALF-HOUR to ring the lady up, during which time she grew very frustrated. My STL gave the lady a "customer appeasement" BL gift card). This is just another example of Big Lots forcing UNTESTED technology on us prematurely. It was especially poor timing to issue this update 3 days before a Friends & Family Event. Yet another "Bungling Bruce" boondoggle (Waste of Money)!

Heard all ATLS positions are going to 37.5 hours. Also, more remodel work with adding"the lot". What more can the ATLM and STL be expected to do?
Two 3 day 20 % in Jan, Buy more save more coupons , bounce back coupons given out.... something’s wrong it’s not working big lots ... only making money by cutting employees hours down to nothing ...20 years and have seen it all ...getting ugly
I would like to personally "thank" Grinch Thorn for keeping 2-3 Big Lots associates from every store away from their families on Christmas Eve again this year. Enjoy those "extra" dollars you made between 6pm and 10pm. You, once again this year, ruined Christmas Eve for the 3000+ associates you forced to work late. It would have just been awful if Target got a few more sales than we did (lol). Now, you want to have a big "20% off" sale on Jan.1, so you can ruin New Year's Eve. for thousands more associates. You are a real piece of work, Bruce! Your management staff can only hope and pray that our #1 New Year's resolution (To get you FIRED) comes to pass in 2020. CHUMP!
Biglots is getting lucky , it will catch up soon and BK is next for them.
As of today, 12/16/19, there are 133 "Freight Processing Lead" positions posted for our 1400-plus Big Lots stores. There are also other stores who currently have no one in this position, but don't have that position posted. I wonder why? Guess there aren't too many "s—ers" out there willing to take on this back-breaking, frustrating position...especially when Big Lots wants to pay them only $11-$12/Hr. Then you're expected to have your team members kick-out 25-27 cases of freight per hour. Seriously? Got a NEWSFLASH for you, Brucey Boy, most stores are FUDGING their figures to meet your unrealistic expectations. Only way a store could meet this goal is if ALL incoming merchandise was pre-priced. However, we are now receiving even more unpriced stock than ever before! In addition to that, Bruce and the other members of the Board of Directors are all receiving compensation packages in the range of 2-4 million dollars, which they have done NOTHING to deserve! Increased "earnings" for our stockholders should come out of their salaries and bonuses, not on our backs in the stores. 2020 is the year that we store employees start taking our company back...Happy New Year!

How's BOPIS working for you guys? My store is experiencing a near-50% cancellation rate, as many customers are not picking up or calling about the merchandise they've reserved on-line. Lots of them are saying "I thought I could pick it up a week or two later, because I've already "paid" for it?" Wrong!...and WRONG! Our on-line store is NOT explaining how the process works, which doesn't surprise me at all.
Good riddance! I'm glad I get to spend the holidays with family for a change instead of working b—s— Thanksgiving schedules. No longer do I have to worry about the dumb DTS 3.0 b—s— no one follows for the unrealistic unload times. No longer do I have to work with lazy thieving managers that sit in the office and let the inmates run the prison. No longer do I have to hear racial and s-xual explicit stories from the DM who knows jack sh– about his job. A sinking ship for sure.

I am atlm currently with the company, but still actively seeking for other employment. I am just wondering if there are any other atlm experiencing what i am or am i an id–t for allowing it. My situation is that the current stl is rarely in the store, and works only 1 weekend a month and offers no type of rotation, and never even tries to follow the rotation schedule that they send out, sometimes it is months before i get a weekend off, when i request a weekend I get attitude from stl, we are supposed to get a least 1 weekend a month, stl also closes maybe 3 times a month. If i report it to big voice, they give it to hr, hr gives it to dm, dm and stl are buddies and nothing will get done about it, any suggestions??
Severence just ended, allowed me to be picky. 13 yr vet laid off SM. Landed same position, nearly same salary, with a company whos stock valie is nearly 5 times Big Loss' current valuation. Was vindictive but Im looking forward, not behind anymore. Besides, who knows......perhaps some of the leaders that had in hand in picking who stayed and who left end up in front of me needing work. I expect that folks at headquarters are nervous as heck. Today the stock is trading below $20. Earnings are to be reported on Friday. Bloodbath is anticipated. Tons of money is being poured into advertising with results being less than expected. Don’t believe me?, then call one of your contacts in Columbus.
FYI, Biglots is struggling to keep up with online business.
For sure they will cut , I don’t feel bad for the people that still work for them , GLAD I’m gone.

The fiscal year ends in January, so those who are still left better hold on tight because there will probably be more cuts coming. The stock has dropped half of its value in less than a year. They will have to cut back on more hours so they can say they've cut expenses and make the projections for the coming year a little more palatable.
Glad I left. My DM was one of the most unprofessional people I've ever met. What grown person sends out an email with eight or nine exclamation points? That is not even getting into the fact that they could not be trusted. How can someone be investigated by asset protection numerous times and still have a job?

I had 26 years with big lots, I worked 7 different locations in 2 different states, before I was told my position was eliminated due to restructuring. During my career at Big Lots I was a Stl and also a assistant manager. I have made many friends at the various locations and I still stay in touch with members of management who are still employed. I have visited some local Big Lots and you can see the stress and pressure they are under! When I was terminated I felt angry and bitter, now that some months have passed I’m happy I don’t work for a company who doesn’t give a damn about their associates and is only worried about the bottom line! As thanksgiving approaches I wish all of you a happy thanksgiving! It will get better it’s not the end of the world, I recently accepted a part time position at Costco, During the two weeks that I have been at Costco I was given a free yearly membership which normally costs 60.00 and a voucher for a free turkey, and we are closed on thanksgiving. Not all retailers are the same, some even care about the associates !

Has anyone notice that on the national big lots facebook page, many keep sharing the picture of the union free tract that big lots gives to all employees, and it is deleted shortly. I wish we could all get together and expose Big Lots for how they treat their employees.

Why has no one contacted unions had them hitting stores. That may be the wakeup call needed.
And don't be surprised if the next cut is your benefits. I'm just thankful they have money to waste on mystery shops and surveys while capping max raises at 2% while also firing and laying off people.
I am an ATLM, still with the company, but looking for other career options daily. The workload is almost unbearable, and it seems like they want us to walk out. Just this week we received over 2K pieces of freight, 100+ of upholstery, 70+ of mattressess, no extra hours to unload or process all these items. Then receive email from DM that we better not go over on given hours......what the Hell...the busiest time of the year and they want no overages on payroll.
I was one of the 4000. I think it's actually 400 or 500 that we're actually let go but it impacted 4000 associates taking on additional job duties to make up for the ones that we're let go. I'm glad i am gone. The stock holder first mentality is a terrible way to run a business. The workload is terrible and people see the misery, that's why they have trouble filling the positions. They have to wait and find desperate individuals that will take any job at low pay
and are okay with suffering for low pay.

Monday 11/11/19: As of today, there are 1949 job postings on the Big Lots "careers" site...but just slightly over 1400 stores in the company. That equals around 1.4 jobs per store. Virtually EVERY store in the chain is operating short-handed. This is NOT including the 4000 jobs that were hacked by Butcher Bruce on 7/29/19. This doesn't even count all the job postings for the company's main office and warehouses. Why aren't these positions getting filled? NOBODY wants to work for a company that pays bare-minimum wages, has a non-existent life/work balance, has unattainable store standards, and has a "stockholders first" attitude. I highly recommend that our board of directors send Neanderthal Man Bruce back to the Stone Age he came from!
In california, the theft has to be to $1000 or more for the shoplifter to be arrested for a felony. Other wise its just a citation. Then they dont even to to jail. Cops show up 2 hours after you call them, why bother. Then LP and DTL ask why your shrink number is so high. Cause were in california and we dont stop shoplifters. Were supposed to customer service them, with what time? Sooooo many tasks to complete, barely time to complete those, why go big or deter shop lifters. I hate working here, it is a miserable place to work.
Their solution for the loss of merchandise dollars is to make it up by reducing payroll dollars. The money has to come from somewhere. It will come from payroll reduction. Are you willing to get stabbed or a staff infection fighting a homeless tweeker cause he's stealing a speaker and shave razors. They can have it! Its part of Big Lots business strategy, open stores in low income, areas for cheap rent, focusing on the core big lots customer, occasionaly good enough credit to get a blcc or enough of a job to qualify for easy leasing, where they can get screwed and pay 2.1x's the actual cost of the merchandise. Also, because they are poor they are okay with paying low prices for low quailty c-ap merchandsie. Big lots succeeds in poor areas and fails in affluent areas where people have standards and higher expectations. The total opposite of say Target. So, Big Lots will always have a theft issue, its part of doing business. It costs less to let people shop lift than to stop theft and risk a lawsuit by either an associate or a thief. If you work there you have to personaly be okay with dealing with tweeker thieves, homeless thieves, constant turnover, workload that never gets completed because another wokrload is piled on top of that and finally, being embarrased to tell your friends that you work at Big Lots. Ugh, with a look of disgust, is the response that you get when you tell people that you work at Big Lots. Find that in the Glassdoor Review!
If anything they will go under for the amount of theft that is allowed. I understand you can't call the police for opened candy, but it is a free for all! You can literally just walk out with pools, full purses ,carts, ect.. They will have a plate and everything, but they don't even bother to file reports anymore. Maybe an email to Chris Mcglone(whatever the f**k he does). We had two men working for us take money out of the registers. FAYBION JOHNSON AND BRET GARRISON. One quit, the other was fired. No charges pressed, nothing on their records. What a joke. I understand someone being payed minimum wage shouldn't put themselves in danger for merchandise, but what about the managers? In the years I've worked for them I don't think one thief has been charged.
You will find out no matter where you work EVERYONE is REPLACEABLE! Not just biglots. I don't like saying that but it is true. Look at all the reorganizations at other companies. Unfortunately it is something that is going on everywhere right now.
I have let it go, i am happy that I am no longer part of such a terrible environment. It is not festering, its trying to open current associates eyes to the truth. You are unappreciated pawns giving your soul to Big Lots, making them money, the shareholders and Bruce. They only care about you when you are not making them money. Greed runs this company and it is very unfortunate. When associates leave because ti s—s there, no one cares. You are all replacable, easily. How many people leave and just replaced so easliy. ALOT! Enjoy the terrible environment, it will not get better, only worse. Have a great Thanksgiving with your second family, LOL.
It's a shame that so many of you are intimidated by our Gestapo Corporate...afraid to speak your minds. You just keep on taking all the unreasonable c-ap that Corporate burdens you with (crazy top-stock standards, no one to help lift sofas and recliners, insufficient DTS hours, asking customers "20 questions" at checkout, piles of paperwork/computer work, etc...Then, they have the NERVE to say that they treat us like a "second family!" LOL Bruce's goal is to turn our stores into low-budget "sweatshops," like the ones in Beijing and other Chinese cities...to make more profits for our greedy stockholders...and HIMSELF!
