If anyone wants to get the idea of how a lot of hard work goes to waste due to the incompetence of the management, I suggest they look into the practices of Metlife’s management. A lot of ignorance mixed with a whole lot of hubris is a powerfully toxic combination. Managers expect that all the work will be done in their unrealistically set deadlines, while providing us with minimum training, forcing us to work on outdated and complicated software, and even when all the work is done most of it goes to waste because they fail to implement the results due to their own lack of knowledge and training. At the same time, we are faced with a very poor treatment from those same managers, as they are constantly creating a toxic atmosphere. As a 4 year long employee of Metlife, I can say that the only reason why I am staying with the company is that I am satisfied with the pay and benefits, but I ask my self how long I am going to be able to take these practices.

I worked for MetLife for over 17 years and recently was informed of my job elimination. I loved the pay and benefits MetLife gave me but the working environment is toxic to your health and mind. You are constantly under the fear of losing your job. I really understand businesses need to make cuts but why hold it over our heads every day we come into the office and also stop eliminating the ones with talent. It seems they axe the ones that can call them out and leave the ones that have no clue how to do the job. The new leadership in NC wants nothing to do with the well-seasoned employees, any suggestions that were made by anyone with a history with the company were always ignored. They made you feel as if you spoke out with suggestions you were being difficult and reluctant to the new change which was not the case. The new management would implement new processed but they really were not “new’ at all, they were processes we used to do but changed that practice because it didn’t work. Then when those processes failed they would later implement the process it replaced now making it their own idea, perfect. The managers are all into self-promotion and looking for their own best interests not yours. Our manager couldn’t even sit down with us to talk to us about the layoff she had someone else do it and played dumb. This company could be great if they would listen to their employees and have a good internal program for promotion or cross training so jobs don’t become stagnant. This is just the tip of the iceberg a lot more going on here then I can say.

When the CEO says that headcount will be cut mostly by attrition, it appears that management is working to make that happen by making working conditions so bad people will want to leave. As far as the survey don’t fill it out, they hate that! LOL! And remember, if you do, it’s just going to make more work for you and your peers as it’s the MetLife Way to let managers sit back and do nothing while piling work on their direct reports.
You summed it up perfectly. In Auto and Home, the incompetent back stabbers reside at the Unit Manager and Director level in Charlotte, Freeport and Troy. The rest are housed in Home Office claims in Warwick, RI. One such Director who resides in Charlotte, openly bragged how she listened to an employee confernce call which was supposed to be for individual contributors to discuss the employee survey results and to come up with possible solutions to issues outlined in the survey. She then retaliated against the employees who criticized management in the conference call. These are the type of individuals who are in leadership in this company. No wonder why the company is in the shape it is in. I have been in employee with this company since 1998 and the individuals that have been promoted to leadership positions after people retired or were laid off over the last five plus years have no ethics, integrity or credentials to be in the positions they're currently in.
