Attrition is Too High to Layoff

From what I understand, the attrition rate at Malta is 18% in the fab alone. I believe the exodus has begun and with the fact that virtually no one ever returns to GF after leaving, laying people off is no longer a viable solution (unless done so en masse via a whole department). I would think that an announcement would come sooner than later as February could still hit, but there is just not enough manpower staying to justify cutting more people. Financially, losing people through attrition is better than involuntary separations so I would not be surprised if they just left the door wide open for employees instead of being proactive (i.e. layoffs).

Nice word salad of zero content. Behold, my ability to take the current date, and the phrase '14 days ago' and covert that into another date. The only reason you made that comment is because ya got absolutely nothing in response to my overwhelming body slam on your previous duuumb statements. You were the one who thought the manager strike was true. I was the one who correctly told everyone before it was supposed to happen that it was false. The fact that you come back and talk gibberish in response to me pointing that out only makes you look even more duuumb than you were the first two times. Anyone with two brain cells knew the "manager strike" was a crock. That's the only reason Big Pivot called it correctly. Deduction or reasoning that involves three or more brain cells, and he's useless. Really though, he's patting himself on the back for predicting something as easy to predict as the sun setting in the west. Anything more complex, and he is hilariously called out as wrong every time.

@BP - Wow, dude, did mommy forget to give the Ritalin yesterday? You went back and actually parsed through the threads to pull that out. You must have been sweating pretty good looking for it "I know I wrote something...I know I wrote something" and then to back calculate the date since TheLayoff only puts so many days ago. I am impressed with your maths skills for such a simple mind. I think you need to get out of mom's basement and get some sun, the lack of VitaminD is really messing with your head.

once AMD announced they go to TSMC for 7nm and IBM the same thing.. .u know the future is bleak... soon TSMC will have ample extra capacity for 7nm and they will tell those 2 giants to move their product to 7nm and use their special inFO WLP... then we will see the real impact , Fab 8 will be 20% utilized... and how long can u last with 20%

Don't worry about MerryPivot or OriginalBigPivot or whatever he calls himself. He has no confidence in his ramblings since he waited until the week was over to respond to such things so he must have thought there may have been some truth to them. He may actually have been the only one that took the manager strike seriously.

From my tiny place in the world it appears departures are occurring at all levels. wafer fab techs, process techs, maint techs, engineers, sr. engineers, principal engineers... etc

Only folks not leaving are the happy workers in the cafe. Maybe GF managers should speak to cafe management how they keep their employees so happy.

LOL at blaming anything occurring in Malta on GB. 3 years later, where is the high yielding 7nm from the magical IBM R&D teams defeating TSMC and bringing in business? It was an absolute disaster.

Failed management like GB has put this company in an untenable situation. Why GF ever hired him after his career of failed ventures at Motorola and Infineon are a total mystery! Chalk up another technological failure for him.
