Asking my ex director to put me in the surplus list after 18 years of service with AT&T in IT was the best decision I have ever made in my life. Believe me I know how a lot of you guys feel because our lives depend on our jobs but I was floored as to how many jobs are out there. At 45 years old I was blessed to get a higher paying job and don’t have to deal with the mandatory calls every spring and winter. Hang in there there is life after AT&T I got 3 pink slips in my career with AT&T and I was done when I got the 4th one. It take away years out of your life worrying if you are going to be the selected one that gets the axe.....

@1raa: "Something tells me 18 years service and age 54 saying he wants to leave is a troll. Rule of 75 comes to mind." - that would mean he joined the company at age 36 - what's suspect about that? Rule 75: "There is always a female version of a male character, no exceptions." - how is that relevant?
So re: trolling, have you looked in the mirror?
Something tells me 18 years service and age 54 saying he wants to leave is a troll. Rule of 75 comes to mind.
I asked to be relocated when I was 1 of 1000 layoffs in Michigan a year ago and they couldn't find me another position. That's appendix F for ya tho..
Huge layoffs around the corner that no one is yet to be aware of
Have you checked the pension difference of 18 years of service with age of 54 or 20 years with age of 56, ie. make it to retirement eligible?
I have just put in my interest in leaving, I’m told that it is not guaranteed that I will be chosen to leave however it is a great feeling thinking about the possibility. I also have 18 years but am 54. I’m excited about my future!
