Thread regarding Highmark Health layoffs

HMHS Layoffs

I am perplexed that there are no updates on HMHS Layoffs on this board. Just look it up online, there is info posted and people are afraid to speak up.

Malec is just doing what he was hired to do. He’ll lay-off a worker-bee because that job is not needed but retain the manager that created that not-needed job. HMHS is not able to sustain itself any longer.

Considering a job opportunity at HMHS. Two big questions that many seem to have - does existing leadership know what they are doing and whether the new top guy Michael Malec is as big of a jerk as some people say? Would appreciate some honest feedback. Thanks

Heard there is another round coming 04/03, not sure if it's true...might just be the rumour mill in full effect

Anyone hearing that HMHS preparing for more layoffs?

by

Post ID: @6oxwz+Xa43hCr

working atmosphere Is not good - it is the result of 1) all the prior layoffs, guessing when the next one is and who is included and 2) Michael Malec is a major league a**hole and many, if any, don’t like or respect him.

Agree with most if not all the comments on HMHS - not a good place to be or be going because of the so-called “leadership”. The good news is that the economy is good and there are plenty of other job opportunities - so find that place out there with a good business model and reputation and respected leadership. Good luck to all!

Karen Hanlon and Mike Malec have no clue what they are doing or what to do with HMHS.....no way I would take their offer to work there.

Just found this site; I was part of the Nov 4th mass layoff.

What pisses me off the most is that back in April, my department was slashed and SDLC was brought in to take over. At the time, that a–hole Malec spoke with those of us left in the department and claimed that they were going to be 'badge-neutral'; i.e. pick the best people instead of FTE vs Contractor

In the 7 months since, EVERY SINGLE FRICKIN NEW PERSON in the department came from SDLC. Absolutely no new FTE.

I know of at least 3 others in the dept who also got RIF'ed in November, so Mick/SDLC is continuing to gut the company.

They should be giving us raises, we're doing the grunt work

106 people got let go on November 4, but Karen Hanlon received a 1 million dollar raise and Holmberg 2 million. Trib live article from November 11.

Not mine! After some further consideration, I accepted another offer with a company that I had a greater comfort level with.

Most insulting may be the raises and extreme levels of compensation received by a handful of Highmark executives in the years that they are laying off employees by the hundreds. Look at articles yesterday and today in the post-gazette and tribune review. Do they deserve our trust and commitment?

And the company continues to lay employees off while renewing work visas for foreign employees and continues to shift more and more jobs to India. This is the classic case of watch what they do and not what they say. It’s a good job market and there are good jobs at companies with better leadership both in terms of knowing what they are doing and being good people.

The goal of working here is to run you into the ground. All they do is make you do more and more with no more pay. Then brainwash you into thinking we’re doing so good but come raise time in March it’s the same c-ap every year. Please stop insulting my intelligence. If you want to motivate your employees compensate them fairly and not insult them with a 5 dollar lousy gift card. If that’s the best you can do don’t even bother because it’s a slap in the face.

A lady got layoff on her 40+ anniversary at Highmark.

Yes, Malec is a terrible human being. His attempt at crude humor is not one bit funny. The only funny thing is that Highmark leadership entrusting him to grow this business. Malec is such a caustic personality he will continue to drive away existing customers and talent and be unable to attract new customers and talent. Last one out please Turn out the lights......

Morale of anyone working hard in HMHS is shattered when reading emails from Mic Malec stating that “everyone in the company has don’t-care attitude”.
Worst executives and management staff.

Yes clearly a personal decision but just look at the trend of mass layoffs and decreased revenues over the past few years. It is similar to buying a stock that is plummeting in price - where is the bottom?

by
|
Post ID: @4Iubl+Xa43hCr

Clearly a personal decision but if it was me or a family member I would stay clear of hmhs - the technology company as that is a sinking ship that is only sinking faster with the new ‘leadership’ in there. The job market is good - there are probably better options out there for you- good luck.

To the person contemplating working at hmhs. I worked there for 7 years and somehow missed all of the layoffs over the years. I recently got out and went over to the business side of Highmark. My advice to you is to take the job if you do not have other options or are fresh out of college and work at HMHS for 6 months to a year. Then use that experience and go somewhere else.

I have an offer with HMHS. Is it a bad idea to make the transition? Are there any departments that haven't been affected in the last few layoffs?

I got laid off on November 4th. Worked as an application developer. Don’t waste your time with this company cause you will be replaced by an Indian in Chennai

I was laid off today after 25 years of dedication and hard work. Very sad how they do it as we are not humans.

The only thing I don’t agree with is that the guy looks more like Mr. Potato Head.......

by
|
Post ID: @4Icmk+Xa43hCr

Yeah think the guy is Mike Malec - tries to be a comedian but the only thing that is funny is that it looks like leadership is giving him the reins to turn around the sinking ship and he does not have what it will take to grow the business......only so much slashing and burning can be done. Morale around someone like him will only get worse.

Maybe the worst part of the continued mass layoffs today is that the company is keeping workers on visas here over American workers ...... they should also just come out and disclose that they continue to add workers in India and lay-off American workers but they don’t want that dirty little secret to come out

by
|
Post ID: @4Husm+Xa43hCr

So sad - it will only get worse - brought in the new leader that looms like Humpty Dumpty and he is in way over his head - only thing he can bring to the table is cutting costs by mass layoffs - he won’t be able to bring in new customers with his background and the garbage product they offer - much better employers out there

Several let go today. Employees in both offices (Pitt and Camp Hill) were brought together and mass fired.

Honestly at this point I hope I'm part of the layoffs, morale is at an all time low at this place

200 more layoffs is the rumor this month, anyone have any info on that?

I’m still at HMHS, I actually wish I would have gotten laid off and collected a severance. I am pretty sure Highmark is blacklisting those who still work at HMHS and are trying to move to the Highmark side.

I did get a phone interview for a Highmark position and was laughed at when I told them I was still at HMHS. I don’t think i’m going to get that job!

Post ID: @28fli+Xa43hCr

How about HIghmark blacklisting from employment everyone who was laid off from HMHS? Nice.

Post ID: @20mmb+Xa43hCr

No future for this company. Matt Ray supposedly told leaders he was going to sail boats in Italy. Good to know where all the money went. Sick how HR handled the layoffs. No respect at all. People on my floor found out when their computer was shut off instead of from a manger. New COO brought in to k--l this company. Anyone even thinking about applying should stop. Where’s the supposed great investigative reporting from Pittsburgh newspapers on how this company paid huge salaries to leaders on a Ponzi scheme piece of c-ap product?

Absolutely more to come. April will be an ugly month for HMHS employees. Don't trust anyone who says you are safe.

Post ID: @1szrr+Xa43hCr

They are being sued by a client and don't seem to ever get to root problems. Clients overpaying for poor quality service. Only emphasis is on how many hours are billable not effeincy or quality of work. Very beauracratic and poor leadership
