GDQ has been affected by layoffs here in US. Lay offs of competent employees without any rationale, no rhyme, no reason. Nobody knows the criteria. And shame on Novartis' executive management to allow something like this happening - our HR is also weak and they are here to protect the company not the worker - that's simply wrong.

I totally agree. The managers of the effected employees have no idea how to run things and inexperienced individuals were retained. They distributed a sheet mentioning the age of affected individuals which is supposed to be confidential

This might sound cynical but HR is not to protect employees. It's to protect the company from being sued by employees. Trust me, after a 20 yr career with 6 different companies, that's what I've seen.
Just wish I knew this (about the real role of HR) when I was fresh out of college.
