Thread regarding ABB layoffs

2019 Hiring Freeze following announcement of "largest restructure since 1988"

By now we all know they announced a huge restructure and the sale of Power Grids right before Christmas. Now they have a company-wide hiring freeze. In my location I've already seen several people who quit in the last few months not get replaced, and the workload for the rest of us is getting severe. Anybody hear what's coming next? Mass layoffs? Plant closures?

They have imposed a freeze on external hiring as they desperately need to save costs and improve their extremely complicated matrix structure - to become more attractive to the shareholders.

A lot of internal discussions going on within ABB on every level among those employed there and survival at the job is one of the main topics especially for those having "no cover" or "patrons" among higher-ups as more jobs or even factories will be cut/restructured.

Lots of mocking and irony about "Writing The Future" is around too - many people call it job-cuts.

I personally would prefer to be in Power Grids much more compared to those who "stay" - just an opinion of somebody who spent more than 20 years in that Company.
