I was a store manager for several years, and let me tell you, I've seen it all. Yelling matches in SM meetings, whole stores quitting at once, fake D's, and stores faxing 20-30 extension requests to hit numbers.
I was there when high touch was phased out. Lets just say that SM's were p-ss-d because they couldnt fake their credit numbers with fake extensions anymore, that was the DM's job, lots of firing after that.
I saw faked inventories, I mean, it was pretty easy to print out a couple price tags for the items you missed and scan them. Any actual missing item could be dumped in service and recycled without any inventory discrepency, this was popular to do, especially if your DM was coming for an "audit". my district called it the "B--ch Report".
It's also IMPOSSIBLE for SM's to handle their own HR duties. If you hired a bad employee, good luck getting any of them fired, that of course, was the DM's job, even hiring a prospective employee, was the DM's job... The "30 day" hiring limit was pretty sh-- as well.
I started from the bottom as well, as a CAR, when that was a thing... I was there when PDS'S were implemented, and was told that one of us was going to be fired to make way for the new program. I threw my friend under the bus, to make sure I wasn't that guy.
We ALL know what the problem is. Our customer base is a bunch of meth heads and poor people who can't pay their bills. The D's are just rewrites on over extended accounts and sales we know are fake. Also the credit application is easily faked as well, I knew many SM's that filled apps with fake information. I would go into a store to fill in for an sm, only to find that their ENTIRE sales calls program was riddled with fake names and numbers...
The system is broken. Everyone has done something listed above, and the "good" guys wont last long if they don't play ball.
How to fix RAC? you don't. The rent to own industry is dying. Just like every retail store out there. Sometimes you gotta know when to hang your hat.
