Thread regarding Nokia Corp. layoffs

Nokia USA's current severance package?

Anyone know what Nokia USA's current layoff severance package is? I heard someone say there was some recent change by Nokia where one would get an extra year of severance by taking some course ??

You can qualify for some additional US unemployment under a special program since the jobs are considered to have been "offshored." It is detailed and complicated like any government program. If you qualify, apply for "regular" unemployment and the state will contact you to fill out forms, attend orientation, and otherwise learn about the additional benefits you may be eligible for

I left on my own but was a steady FMP (force management plan, e.g. a RIF) every two months. They recently cut the severance length down and also required you to "work" the first 4 weeks after your layoff! If you are scrambling to find a new job that can help. One manager actually wanted his laid-off employee to work uncompensated overtime on the weekend. His intended victim spend many weekends on-call or otherwise spinning his wheels on useless tasks. He is better off getting laid off. Hard to imagine Nokia offering a package, I think the current approach is to make everyone in the US so miserable they leave as soon as possible. US is a HIGH COST REGION, HIGH COST REGION .... Thats all they say.
