In the name of focussing investment in new areas of business, Akamai eliminated 120 positions primarily in US. The real motive of the layoff was to move the jobs to low cost countries like India, Costa Rica and Poland. Akamai is still hiring and retaining workers in US on immigrant visa to depress the wages and laying off American citizens. Akamai has struggled to grow like other internet companies for several years. Where are those Democrats and Republicans in Government protecting American jobs?

Nah. I've worked for Akamai. They really do lay off a lot of people. They prefer an obsequious tier 2 talent to any independent thinker who speaks up or suggests that something could be done better.
@CrispyCritter this is sadly true. I interviewed with them a little over a year ago and it looks like Cisco. Is Akamai an Indian owned company now? Talking to them about the project I interviewed for and I couldn't believe how dated their technology is. I asked about what they were doing innovatively given 5G and media streaming and I'm not sure this company knows how to innovate. When was the last time they did?
Remember, Akamai is really just a bunch of web caching proxies (Squids). They have a lot of contracts with a lot of companies, and that can sustain a company for a while. Akamai does not actually develop any technology. Instead, they buy smaller companies that have developed something and then lay off the expensive engineers (talented people). I worked for a DDOS mitigation company that was bought by Akamai because Akamai was completely incompetent when developing/deploying network filtering at scale. That was five years ago. They still have not incorporated any of the technology into their existing infrastructure. Akamai simply does not know how to make new tech. Honestly, they need to lay off a LOT more people because they obviously are not going to develop anything new with the engineers they already have. The odd thing is that corporate management really makes an effort to come off as progressive and "our employees are the most important resource we have" which may be true as they could easily lay off over three quarters of the company and not affect revenue any.
Akamai patents expire next year on core products, Huge problem for the company no wonder it is shedding.
This company does not hire from the top echelon. Thre's a lot of people at all levels, epsecially at the top who talk and never do. Start hiring those who do.
They need to lay off more, The company does not hire best of breed in various disciplines and they don't act fast in getting rid of those who can"t keep Up
Their was a time when it was hard to get hried into the company but now they hire and keep weak talenT
No-one is misinformed here. You're either in denial or unaware. I know 110% the company is cutting costs in various disciplines to hire in in more low-cost regions. I also agree with previous posters, the company cares nothing about its US Citizens. 99% Indian and only 1% of them re good.
misinfomed group here. I bet bunch of white men cribbing about immigration. ISA is not center of the world.
U mean again in Mar or is this from the one a couple months bacK/
@Y5myqNN-3fjd an H1B hired over a citizen has nothing to do with better skils. The company forces managers to hire non-Citizens even if the other candidate was better matched. Who's getting kickback?
Akamai cares nothing for its US Citizens. It's not that they suppress wages, because the majority of their H1Bs are so unskilled.
@Y5myqNN — Work visas are Non-immigrant visas. Apart from H1, there are multiple ways for people to come an work here with minimal/without any restrictions eg canadians, english, kiwis and aussies. If your job can be moved to a didferent country then you are not skilled enough so take time to learn about texhnologies and how workd is changing. If a company is willing to file an H1 work somebody, you probably wont hold a chance against then in terms of intellect and it requires about 10k in upfront costs and not to mention costs on renewals over time.
