Thread regarding ShopKo Stores layoffs

Small communities need a place to shop!!!

Very sad that Shopko could not make a financial commitment to these small communities. I worked at Pamida and then Shopko for 15 years and loved it until we became so understaffed that it was hard to keep everything together. That's what doomed this company. Also the prices were too high (we were told CONSTANTLY be our customers) so they went across the river and shopped at Walmart. Why couldn't you stay competitive? Decided to retire in 2014 and so sad to see the Hometown store close. So sad for these small communities that need a place to shop!!!

I worked for Shopko for 7 years and had planned on this being my last job until retirement. I noticed 3 years ago that something was wrong, but every time I brought it up I was told everything was just fine. I am angry because of the lies they told their employees and the stunts they pulled before filing bankruptcy. They paid out dividends to stock holders instead of paying debtors. They owe the state of Wisconsin over 13 million dollars in revenue. They cut our labor hours to the bare bones and worked just a hand full of us to exhaustion and complained when we couldn't get it all done. What goes around comes around. Shopko hurt a lot of dedicated employees.

Such a great post. This is so true. Smaller communities keep getting hammered and stores are closing left and right. SAD!

Why can't you be price competitive with Walmart is a really stupid question.
