The answer to the OPs question is this: they did this to reduce the expenses of administering multiple job titles- but also staying within the guidelines of saving money, the long range effect is that this action waters down pay increases from foreign titles present in their system. In this case, aligning job titles increases the corporate bottom line by lowering projected foreign job title pay increases. It simplifies the pay structure process going forward. All actions like this cost money. That’s a fact. it’s just a matter of where are they getting the savings from? In this case, the foreign job title holder. That’s the reason for this ‘title change’, Business 101.
Some things you could do:
--Read the announcement, which explains that it is simply part of a project to unify titles.
--Ask your manager, who has probably read the announcement and will tell you that it is simply part of a project to unify titles.
--Ask HR, who wrote the announcement and will tell you that it is simply part of a project to unify titles.
--Post on an anonymous discussion board demanding answers that are readily available elsewhere.
