Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Genius quarter

Dropped revenue of 25 percent from 2 quarters ago, 700 million decrease.

Resulted in 83 cents per share of earnings. Gave 63 cents per share to the investors, laid off a lot of great people to get there.

Is the loyalty to this company worth it when it is all about the investors?

Correct. There will be no revenue recovery. It will keep falling until Seagate becomes like one of those companies still selling 2.5 inch floppy discs for old obsolete systems still in use. Unless it suddenly finds massive success in systems and SSD. Both seem unlikely.

It is over. Declines in revenue like this will not be made up in volume of HAMR. The Chinese nand has not even hit the market in a big way. Play it out for a few years and it is high end Samsung nand and low end Chinese nand. That is the storage market. Hdd costs too much in this scenario and not included in the minds of consumers but seagate executives continue the story that hdd is a growing market and its failed ssd and systems are worthwhile endeavors. Only fools would believe, we are technologists and we know the truth, their hypothesis does not make sense.

If 16Tb actually used HAMR, management would be screaming it from the rooftops. The fact that they aren't tells you all you need to know. The wait continues.....

i've been an employee for both STX and WD- currently neither. i ask about the STX 16TB because the conference call implicitly said it was not HAMR. WD has a 15TB host managed SMR and 14TB conventional. Just trying to figure out what this STX drive is. i could see 9 platters but that's not particularly interesting.

CEO did say they announced it last month and began shipping/ramp up. Expects it to be the number one revenue generating product by this time next year. Also said that platform would support HAMR when "it is ready".

i will point out in WD's earning reports, they also claimed 16TB conventional and 18TB SMR this calendar year with "energy assist". Strange they didn't explicitly say mamr.

i expect both are having wishful thinking. just trying to figure out when the sh*t hits the fan so i can bail on my stock options.

The goal of any non-managerial employee should be to drag the company by the collar to a bathtub and drown it.

STX. I have been hearing about 16tb vaporware for years. Sounds like 9 disks or unprofitable hamr

No, the company or the people who own and operate it don’t care about you. If you’ve been tricked into having loyalty then it’s great for exploiting you at reduced cost of retention and hiring. That’s sums up the level of thought about you. If you are known to be loyal and no threat of leaving then the raise and promotion is better spent on someone who is a flight risk. Being openly loyal is the worse thing you can do for your career.

in the conference call CEO said 16TB hdd began shipping in late March. yet, STX website only has 14TB for the highest capacity drive. what is this 16TB? conventional or shingled? if latter, host managed?

We contribute more than investors. Money is easy to get but having talent and culture to create the next generation of technology is and should be most important.

So when we get stupid comments about what did you contribute, investors give money, it must be one of the id--tic Seagate leaders that are driving the company to the super competitive world of tape storage. id--tic.

Firstly, what have you contributed to the company?

At least investors contributed money.

No, company loyalty is gone !! Employers only care about profit , Executives, and stockholders. Employers are just a use and throw away resource. And execs have inside information so they know exactly when to buy/sell stock - insider trading !
