I was laid off may 8. A logistics manager was laid off also, after 21 years. She had an hour notice, I had 5 minutes. To my knowledge, nobody was offered severance, we got told to submit our time and expenses by 1pm that day. I mean, it was slow for 2 weeks prior, but I am hearing that it still slow. Slower than slow. Us field techs saw it coming but Could do nothing about it. Really c-appy for anyone who has little children at home.
Very sad that the board has allowed Gerry to put the entire company at risk. Never should have purchased Compucom. Gerry you should have been terminated because sir you are not a leader.
I’m sad for all the layoffs but down in the trenches at retail level we have been on pins and needles far longer. Our annual reviews were based off of 2 quarters which led to a rating of Needs Improvement, no raise and a PIP. We are told that if we don’t make 98% to plan in sales by the end of Q2 we will be terminated. The odds of us hitting that goal are next to none. We will then be forced to go look for a job stripped of our dignity. We weren’t given the option of a severance package they just plan on papering us out.
The WARN Act is not activated if 50 to 499 workers lose their jobs and that number is less than 33 percent of the employer's total, active workforce at a single employment site.
WARN Act does have limitations but none that are met. Company has plenty of cash on hand but also has poor results making the shareholders and investors cranky. If you were let go with the 2 weeks per year severance and you were with OD for less than four years then you should definitely contact an attorney right away. The company will pay you to make this go away... they already budgeted $100m towards it.
What was the severance package? I heard some people were let go others have until December before they get the axe. Who got the better deal? Who got shafted?
This is why companies of this size need to unionize otherwise we all get screwed while Gerry sits back in his $6m house.
WARN Act has exceptions including unforeseen business issues and companies in financial trouble.
Everyone should be aware of the WARN Act before signing their release forms. I was advised to contact an attorney before signing.
What happened at Corporate was upsetting and disruptive but 85%+ of Corporate associates still employed and teams being told the cuts for now at Corporate are done
After surviving layoffs at Office Depot and OfficeMax, yesterday I got a notification from UPS that a box was on the way from OD. Others at the branch had already received a box (for return of laptop) before they were notified that they were being let go. Then a phone call and that's it. Still waiting for a call, my manager has no information. Just got a second UPS email saying that the delivery date for the box was wrong and it's delayed; they're still waiting for it apparently. OD can't even figure out how to fire people properly. It's been miserable since the 2017 layoffs; they're doing me a favor. Wish they'd done it sooner; I should have left long ago.
Experienced and higher paid field sales talent seem to have been targeted. ODP betting big time on Austin tele sales team to retain and grow business. WB Mason and others will benefit.
Gerry put a tie on and visit your customers. It is a simple business ask them what they want. Go see your ex customers in mid market who moved to WB.
lack of leadership from top, they are suppose to work on strategies to generate more revenue instead some of these cowards op for the cheap way out. Cut cut cut the old trick in the book and nothing original, and so after doing this for a while, the cowards hope they can keep moving on to the next company and do the same. Such losers, one day it will catch up to them. just so sad to have it affect some many. Moving forward, let's brush up the resume and move to a better place.
Try this on for size - 30 year veteran of OD- which is a lifetime. Never been unemployed. My severance- 4 months. F--- you very much. This shameful treatment will come back to haunt these drunken, misaligned leadership team. Alibyebye I say.
So many nice and hard-working people, many of who are my friends were let go today. What is sad is the senior directors and directors sitting around in IT laughing about it. They should be ashamed of themselves and should be next on the chopping block. Their behavior was awful but we saw the same thing by the same clowns back in January of 2017 when the last big layoff happened.
Here's hoping that those so-called leaders (what a joke) are walked out the door next so that this company can make some true changes and hopefully overcome their dreadful mismanagement. I probably won't stick around to see it because it's time to update my resume and get off this sinking ship. Good luck to those that were impacted today - you'll end up better off.
I was let go today. They don’t realize how many lives they impact and families we have to put food on the table for. The severance is really not enough.
Saw a lot of compassion too today at Corporate by those who were not let go towards those who were. Work is more than just your job function- decades of relationships have been created and there is loss akin to a death.
Was at corporate today and I will say this, collectively there are some amazing folks because even though they weren’t sure they were even safe, many were more concerned about people let go. To anyone not at corporate, don’t believe that it is full of vultures and snakes alone - there are a lot of good people who add value and are able to remain human beings with compassion.
Too many useless Senior Directors and up not effected. Depot is not serious until 4 or 5 of the worst of the worst walking around giggling today are let go. Then we will know there is hope,
Finance and Billing having layoffs at Corp on 5/9
It was a very sad day and for those of us that were selected to be part of the layoffs at corporate (including myself), we were treated like criminals. It was bad enough to be let go but how it was handled was a disgrace! After I was hauled into a conference room I then waited an hour for some stranger to go and pillage through my desk to retrieve my personal belongings. The severance being offered is pitiful as well. My heart goes out to my peers and colleagues and I hope all of us find employers that treat us with more respect and know how to run a more successful operation. Shame on all the “leadership” for doing such a poor job, look how many people’s lives you’ve negatively impacted.
Been here over 25 years, the last few years have been changes , and movements that have not worked out so great. Today, is a sad day , good luck to all that have been let go. The sadder news is for the folks left behind, I'm sure it's going to be a long struggle to make this place improve and grow. Just hope we have enough time because the doors close
Through many years working at this company, I have never seen so many talented people let go in this manner. We have see RIF's where the bottom performing people were ushered out the door, but never imagined seeing so many high performers being given the boot. Maybe Gerry should have not taken his salary this year after overpaying for Compu-Comm by 30%, and now watching them help bleed the company dry! Today is a sad day for many, many great people on the way out the door. Luckily they will all find a company that appreciates them far more than this cluster of a company run by a scared CEO who makes blunder after blunder.
It is happening today in fort mill, compucom. Adios. Good Luck to those following me out the door.
The saddest part is you still have the leaders of Retail and the new ever confusing workonomy branding still In charge. Look at what they earn alone. Could have saved 300 jobs here in Boca alone! Methinks it is easier for 5th floor to blame CompuCom then themselves!
CompuCom in hindsight has been a bad move- between paying their legal bills they cost more than they bring in to the tune of millions.
Cuts going deep for sure- even some of the folks people figured were ‘protected’ let go. Still lots of Senior Directors in charge of little untouched though.
Heard that 700+ total were let go. 170 of them at the Boca Raton office. The others mostly are at Compucom and other subsidiaries. But also heard the multi year "Businesses Acceleration Program" will most likely lead to further layoffs in the future.
Supply chain, loss prevention, merchandising so far hit hardest
I’m At corporate right now. No work is being done! Everyone’s on pins and needles. Initially it was thought that it was only going to happen at the director level but it seems like no one is safe?
Hearing 400 will be let go at Corporate
I can confirm that some layoffs are happening today. One of my coworkers just got a call from our VP. Good luck to all!
Layoffs at corporate going down today... 100% confirmed. Best of luck to all impacted.
Who is being affected? Is it just corporate or is retail included? I’ve heard they have let go of a lot of LPDMs.
Today in BSD, Director level so far, what does tomorrow hold in store, really s---s!
Really stressful. Was supposed to take place today. Now the rumor is tomorrow - Wednesday - 5/8. Such a lack of leadership in managing this situation. There are def better ways to manage teams and even coach them on their way out to better opportunities... Everyone is tense and it’s creating a great deal of DISTRACTION.
It s---s and its stressful, but every one of us will be in the same boat within 18 months. This place is goin bye bye.
Stock is down 4.66% almost 11 cents since open/close yesterday 2.36 to now 2.26,
HR has prepped the blocked rooms with tissue boxes and water bottles!! The rumors are terrible!! Also hearing 400+...just waiting. Disgusting how this organization is handling this.
So tired of the rumors. When is this happening !!! 5/7 or 5/8? doesn’t make sense after the announcement. Also have you all heard 400 + people ?
I heard it’s happening on Wednesday 5/8.
