This is a heads up, Laid off in June. Stuck with Cobra, which We write a check directly to GF every month. First the Medical Insurance was changed to cheaper plan ( co-pays and deductibles). We just found out the Dental was changed to a cheaper plan, few in network Dentists ( Our current is not), .We now have deductibles on dental that we did not previously. Mind you for the 2 of Us , the cost is well over 1,300 a month. ( medical and dental ) We were never informed by Global or given new Insurance cards. This Company really bites . Furious .

Why not just get a part time job at one of the companies that offer insurance to part-timers. Starbucks, Target, UPS, etc. If you're will to accept something basic outside the industry the job market is hot enough where you can get coverage and still have free time for the job search.
Why not buy from Market？My husband got laid off in August and Health Ins ended on March. Then, he made appointment to meet someone recommended by Labor Department. Based on our current anticipated income and family size, we got much cheaper plan. Doesn’t matter if you missed enrollment period.
We cannot enroll now, enrollment period has ended. We are stuck with the c-ap that GF has changed to.( This includes the c-appy Health Ins that they now have, too) .In January We can switch to the I.B.M. Health Insurance, hopefully that is still a good plan as it had been in the past.
Its not necessary to stick with COBRA plans. They are expensive & default options are not so great. You can find other options in Insurance Marketplace run by NYS. Reach out to Dept. of Labor at NY state (NYS) or google to see if you can enroll now. If you find one, enroll in it and after that, stop making payments for COBRA coverage- that'll get the COBRA coverage terminated.
