Anyone who says Cengage salaries are higher (on average) has never heard of Brian Kibby. He gave $15K and more raises to MHHE people he brought over from Pearson.
No one is SAFE! McGraw and Cengage salaries are similar AND Cengage has had layoffs at least 2x a year for the past 7 years so I have NO idea where anyone got the idea that layoffs were uncommon at Cengage. Be prepared for a disaster on all fronts. So glad I quit and found a new job outside of the industry last year......this was after 20 years at McGraw, Pearson and Cengage......
Friend of mine posted on FB this weekend that his job was "eliminated" at McGraw - he was in the marketing dept. Sounds like it has started.
Layoffs are uncommon at Cengage!?! Completely false. Endless layoffs have been the norm at Cengage ever since Hansen took over. He is the angel of death.
I heard 150 McGraw employees in Columbus - a quarter of the building - were let go last week. That’s from someone inside the building.
They are not waiting around to start the strip part of the strip and flip.
If reorgs and layoffs are a part of life at Cengage under Michael Hansen, what do you think is going to happen when he becomes emperor of McGraw? He’s going to start swinging the axe and won’t care if you were previously at Cengage or McGraw. It’s going to be McCengage Layoffs Uber Alles.
Layoffs and reorgs are all people at Cengage talk about. They just closed SF and before that did waves of layoffs in every department about every three or four months for the past few years.
Morale is in the toilet and people in every department are nervous every time there is a Town Hall that it's going to be a mass firing. They actually did a mass firing like this a couple years back.
No idea about McGraw vs Cengage salaries. None of us are going to get rich in publishing.
Wrong on ALL counts. Who's your source? Your manager?
McGraw Hill salaries are considerably higher. Layoffs happen, but are uncommon at Cengage. And I hear that roughly 10% of MH K-12 employees were just laid off this week.
Any truth to that last part?
I predict more layoffs and a major re-org. Even if I'm wrong it can't hurt to be prepared with an exit plan.
We're all safe. Cengage salaries are higher and from what I've been told they do layoffs even more than Pearson. If I had to guess we're (MGH) going to have to do more work but at least we will have jobs.
