Additional US unemployment option for those laid off by Nokia?

You can qualify for some additional US unemployment under a special program since the jobs are considered to have been "offshored." It is detailed and complicated like any government program. If you qualify, apply for "regular" unemployment and the state will contact you to fill out forms, attend orientation, and otherwise learn about the additional benefits you may be eligible for

Web search "Trade Act Programs: Petition Search" Put in the company name and you will find the information for your company. Look at the "Determination" column and click on the document and read the last paragraph.

Yes, it is true. Its called the Trade Act program. Your local unemployment office will know how to get you in contact with them.
