Thread regarding GE Power layoffs

These Leadership Programs are garbage....

Get rid of them....most of the projects these LPs work on are useless. Executives sell them off to look good so they can move up, but in the long term 90% of LP projects are useless. If GE wants to attract top talent start going to top schools and pay top dollar. No need to overpay an id--t and have him/her move around to 4 different locations. What a WASTE of money.

THIS IS MY OPINION. However, many GE people past and present share my thoughts.

I really would like to hear from others on what they think about all these DTLP, ITLP, etc.

Most DTLPs have a family member or a very close family friend who is high up in the company. So you wont always get the most outstanding student out of college. I have worked with some very talented DTLPs in the past, but these days they are presented the red carpet and given a much easier road to a leadership position. It's not fair to the non-DTLP new hires, but the company has suffered greatly because of it. Some of these DTLPs are taught to BS in meetings without having any in-depth knowledge of their role, and it really shows in the future when they screw up. Hopefully things will change.

I agree. At one time the leadership programs found top talent and then they began the process of learning the business rom the bottom up. Today, once you get into the leadership programs you are anointed. If you doubt me, look how many son, daughters and a other relatives of GE Management are in these programs.

Totally agree, especially the OLMP. The Edison Engineering program is worth it since it forces folks to get their masters degree. The really bad part is that upper leadership think this LP folks are entitled to promotions while the hard workers in the trenches are never considered.
