Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Another big layoff coming.

Really shocked this hasn’t been posted!! I was notified another department was going to be closed. We have until end of year to find internal options. 😞 I have high hopes to find one but after so many rifs and so many not finding placement I feel my options are slim. Yes Good luck to everyone in all regards. I am a nurse. Not sure how much to post on here to not give myself away. But reading all the posts in the past I feel only fair to warn as others have done.

An Insurance company is that... an insurance company. My grandfather got 100% of all his health care needs covered by medicare. Then the gov outsourced it to private companies and health care coverage is not what it used to be. But what is going on? The top managers started making money. Like a LOT of money. Facts:

President and Chief Executive Officer at HUMANA INC, Bruce D. Broussard made $16,312,517 in total compensation. Of this total $1,273,080 was received as a salary, $3,232,669 was received as a bonus, $2,740,664 was received in stock options, $8,610,778 was awarded as stock and $455,326 came from other types of compensation. This information is according to proxy statements filed for the 2018 fiscal year. "other compensation?"

Effective July 1, 2016 the board approved a 9.5 percent increase in annual pay for the non-employee board members, to $115,000 from $105,000.

The board also approved a 13.5 percent increase in annual pay for the board’s non-employee board chairman, to $210,000 from $185,000, also effective July 1. Currently, Kurt Hilzinger is the board chairman, according to Humana’s website. Hilzinger was elected to the board in July 2003 and to the chairmanship in January 2014. He is a partner at New York-based private-equity firm Court Square Capital Partners.

Stock options for each board member were increased by 6.5 percent, to $165,000 from $155,000 per year. That increase will be effective Jan. 1, 2018. as stock awards are given the first business day of the year, according to the filing.

The measure also increased the annual pay for some of the board’s committee chairman positions. For all committee chairpeople except the organization and compensation committee chairpeople, additional pay was increased by 25 percent to $15,000 per year from $13,000. The organization and compensation committee chairman the committee that developed the director compensation program — will see about an 11 percent increase, to $20,000 per year from $18,000.

The board of directors approved the measure on June 28. The measure also includes other forms of compensation for the board members, such as charitable contribution matches, various forms of insurance and restricted stock options.

Broussard, meanwhile, has his own executive compensation plan with Humana. According to a proxy filing from earlier in the year, Broussard’s total compensation doubled in 2016.

Humana is Louisville’s largest publicly traded company and Broussard was the city’s highest paid CEO in 2016, according to Louisville Business First research.

MIND YOU, THESE FOLKS MEET 4 x a year.

When I read the email the first thing I thought was this is a nicely worded warning. It may not be HAH, but layoffs will occur if stockholders continue to lose money.

I agree something is brewing. Be ready those that are left. I was affected in January, but not surprised. LTIH is going to the network, period. If you don’t believe this, look around. How many non-network Humana employees are left? Only a handful. I saved up my PTO, bonus, and tax checks, so was prepared when it was my turn. But, the bright side is I ended up with a better position that pays more. Remember when one door closes, another will open. Enjoy the holiday, then prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

I thought the same thing. Why do they always do this just before a holiday? Couldn’t that message have waited until after Easter and Passover? Grateful for the heads up and will continue to be financially ready for what comes my way

New message from BB, seems things are changing, message sent to all associates. Got the impression, he is gently informing that future changes on the way. My guess, he has no worries.

Why would you say a bunch of nurses here? There are other disciplines and the thought of nurses being superior rather than a member of a team is the reason we are all here.

Great job Humana! Your PR has reached an all time low. Your customers hate you and can't wait to leave, you employees hate you and their entire circle of influence...friends, family, acquaintances...as a nurse, every doctor, imaging center, pharmacy, lab, hospital, LTC....they all hate you. Yahoo stock has rated you the 4th worst stock in the medical industry to invest in and you have worked your way to the top in many others. You have completely lost sight of all of your employees and customers and the community you serve. Any attempts at promoting any different after your business model of "it's all about making a profit" are seen as a slap in the face and hypocrisy. I am gone. This is my last post or visitation to this site since the very mention of your name makes me want to vomit. It will be my pleasure to see you fall....I hope that happens. You are ruining the very essence of medical care by deleting kindness, compassion, promotion of wellbeing at the expense of human life and the almighty dollar. You didnt even try to find a balance. I just cant any more. I just cant. You cant fix stupid. Adios.

Although I feel this is untrue, it does say on Bloomberg today Humana stock is one of the worst losers now in healthcare.
